Some moments are worth every ounce of chaos behind the scenes. šŸŒŠšŸ’
Capturing a proposal is one of the most unpredictable things we do. Our job is to make magic happen while keeping it a secret and outsmarting the elements.
For our dear friends and .jylee , the vision was simple: intimate, secluded, just the two of them on a quiet stretch of beach. We scouted the location ahead of time and had three backup spots ready to go.
And then the beach had other ideas. šŸ˜…
Come proposal day, the spot was packed and the tide kept creeping higher toward the decorations we’d set up. Dave and I watched the surf inch closer while put on an Oscar-worthy performance keeping Michelle calm and completely unaware.
But she made it. Dave got his moment. And it was everything. šŸ¤
Congrats to two of our favorite people, we love you both so much and couldn’t be more honored to be part of this chapter. Here’s to forever. šŸ„‚

Planning a beach proposal? Here’s our tips:
šŸ“ Scout early. Look for spots with a blind turn so there’s a moment of anticipation before the big reveal. Locate the nearest restroom.
šŸŒ… Be smart about timing. Sunset has the best light but the biggest crowds. Weigh both and plan accordingly.
šŸ“¶ Check your signal. Some locations have poor reception depending on your carrier. The last thing you need is communication breaking down at the critical moment.
šŸ¤ Bring your trusted friend to the scout. Have them walk the path with you so they know exactly which route to take to the spot on the day.
šŸ“ Cover your tracks on scouting day. If you normally share your location with your partner, disable it so a random pin at your proposal spot doesn’t give everything away.
šŸ“± Have your trusted friend temporarily change your name in their phone. If your partner catches a glimpse of a notification, they won’t see your name and connect the dots.
ā° Arrive early on proposal day. Buffer time for parking, walking, set up, and clean up. It gives you room to adapt when things don’t go as planned, and they will.

This weekend was family business.
We had the honor of capturing my cousin and her new fiancĆ© in one of life’s most beautiful moments. It’s been a long time coming for these two and Sapphira and I are truly overjoyed to have been there for it.
Keenan came prepared. Every detail was accounted for, from the setup to gathering friends and family together. We tried to chase the sunset but Mother Nature had other plans, so we did what we always do, we rolled with it and made it work.
Needless to say, it was perfect regardless.
This is exactly why we do what we do at Hearts and Cameras. Some moments you get to witness as family, and some you get to preserve forever as photographers. This one we got to do both.
Congratulations and , you two deserve every bit of happiness coming your way.
If you have a special moment coming up, send us a DM and let’s talk about it.ā€

Some relationships go beyond just being a photographer and a client.
Over 10 years ago, I was on a basketball court with ._ , just two kids having fun, not knowing what life had in store for us. Fast forward and I had the honor of capturing his graduation when he became a PA. Then came his wedding with And now? We get to photograph his family with their baby boy Jordan.

That’s what Hearts and Cameras means to us. It was never just about beautiful photos, it’s about the people behind them. So many of our clients aren’t just clients, they’re friends, and watching their lives unfold chapter by chapter is something we don’t take for granted for even a second.

To be trusted with someone’s most important moments, the milestones, the celebrations, the quiet in-between seasons of life, that’s the part of this work that fills us up the most.

And if you’re reading this, maybe your story is the next one we get to tell. šŸ“©
