While this isn’t my typical Irish dance post, it’s certainly one that’s important to us and our community. Even to many of our dancers. 💚

Dolly Parton was more than a famous singer and songwriter to us in East Tennessee. She was one of our own. She came from the mountains, from a small community and a humble family, and she never forgot where she came from. No matter how far her success took her, she carried the spirit of Appalachia with her. As a child she made me feel that I could grow up and do big things even though the world often said otherwise.

For many of us, she represented something deeply personal: pride in our home and our heritage. Appalachia has been underserved, misunderstood or reduced to stereotypes, but Dolly showed the world another side of the mountains. She showed that you could come from very little and still dream big. You could be proud of your roots while reaching for something beyond them.

“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer.
The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”

Dolly demonstrated that where you come from can be a source of strength—and that success means even more when you use it to lift others up.

For those of us in East Tennessee and the Southern Appalachian Mountains, Dolly Parton was not simply a celebrity we admired from a distance. She was a symbol of home. She represented the best of where we came from: hardworking people, strong families, humor in difficult times, generosity toward neighbors, and the belief that even the biggest dreams can grow from the humblest beginnings.
That is why Dolly meant so much to us. She never left the mountains behind. She carried them with her—and, in doing so, carried all of us a little farther into the world with her.

Our hearts and prayers go out to our Milligan University families after today’s devastating loss. You are weighing heavily on our hearts and minds….for the cyclists, their families, and the Milligan community. Our community did what it does so well in times of tragedy: They came together and selflessly served. Many thanks to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Carter County Tennessee Sheriff's Office, Highlands Emergency Air Rescue & Transport, Virginia State Police, ALL of our local first responders, and First Judicial District Attorney General Steven Finney. Our sympathy stretches far for you Milligan.

Last of the photo drops from Belfast! The Belfast City Council hosted one of the most wonderful events that I will never forget. The music, the dance, the environment was amazing! Many thanks to Fusion Fighters for the entire experience! Watching over 40 dancers from all over the world learn their choreographies over 6 weeks on their own and then have 3 days to rehearse together in person is incredible. Seeing them perform at Belfast Castle, Titanic Belfast, Malone House, and all over Belfast City Centre was sensational. The friendships and fun—priceless. It’s what Irish dance is all about! ☘️💚

I made it home from Belfast at 10 pm last night and woke up smiling from ear to ear. While Belfast was such a wonderful and fun opportunity my focus is on TODAY. Our classes officially begin TODAY for our Fall session. Seeing the new faces who come through the door today is one of my favorites…new dancers, new smiles, and new opportunities to grow and shine. Tomorrow I see my seasoned dancers and can’t wait to reconnect and start working on our new season of learning and skills. How can’t that make your heart smile? 😊

Come try a trial class for free! I’m always accepting students and encourage you to give it a try! For more information:
