Our new conductor, Raven Ross who has been playing in the ensemble for years.
G.R. Davis who came up from Nashville for the first four years of Merry TubaChristmas-Detroit to conduct for us turned his baton over to Detroit’s own Markita Moore in 2014. And this year we welcome our new conductor, Raven Ross, who has been playing tuba in this ensemble for years—her post is usually right next to the Christmas tree on the pulpit side of the sanctuary. Markita had her conduct a few numbers last year to get her started
Raven (left) is a passionate music educator and performer whose life is a symphony of teaching, mentoring, and creating. As an elementary music teacher in Utica Community Schools, she introduces young minds to the magic of music, nurturing their creativity and helping them discover their own musical voices. With a degree in Instrumental Music Education from Wayne State University, she is currently looking to pursue a Master’s degree in conducting to further refine her craft.
Beyond the classroom, Raven is a dedicated brass specialist, working as a brass technician for marching bands across Metro Detroit. She also teaches brass ensemble and serves as the assistant director for the Lakeshore High School Marching Band in St. Clair Shores. A lifelong musician, Raven still plays tuba in the Warren Concert Band, where the joy of performing continues to fuel her teaching. Outside of music, she is an enthusiastic Thespian, with a love for community theater. A member of Grosse Pointe Theatre, she has performed in a range of musicals and contributed behind the scenes as a stage manager, further embracing the arts in all their forms. With a heart full of music and a passion for both education and performance, Raven continues to share the transformative power of the arts, inspiring students and audiences alike to embrace their creativity and reach for the stars.
