September 26, 2010. We woke up to flash flooding, thunder, and lightning.
Later that evening, Heather and I were to get married, outside, on a boat, in Saint Andrew Bay. We immediately started assuming the worst.
And then we got the call.
The owners of the Betsy Ann Riverboat, the boat that we were to get married on, called us that morning to establish a Plan B…a ceremony and reception in the nearby restaurant adjacent to the docks where the boat was.
We had no family money. No parents to pay for anything.
Our original plans of a beach wedding were already cancelled because that was the year of the BP oil spill.
So, when the owners of the Riverboat offered us an amazing deal to rent out their vessel on a Sunday evening, we happily obliged.
We were actually looking forward to getting married on the Riverboat. And now those plans, which were already Plan B plans, were also being threatened because of weather. We were distraught.
I got off the phone with the Riverboat owners and told Heather about the alternate plans they were making. I’ll never forget, she said “Hell no.” LOL
So what did we do? The only thing we could do. We accepted the restaurant wedding plans as the backup plan and we prayed.
We asked God to please part the clouds and allow us to take the Riverboat sunset cruise and get married that way.
And what did God do? Well, he did Godly things. I’m not making this up. The rain stopped about an hour before departure. It was somewhat gloomy, but no rain at all for the duration of our 2 hour cruise.
When we docked, and all our guests were walking back to their vehicles, it started slowly raining again.
It was a miracle.
God bless Captain Rick and Nancy, the owners of the Betsy Ann Riverboat at that time, for monitoring the weather so closely. For not giving up on ours plans. They did an amazing job with everything that day!
So I guess it’s true what they say, that it’s good luck to have rain on your wedding day.
Today, we celebrate 16 years of marriage, and I pray we have many many more.
Heather, I love you so much, and I’m so grateful that God Gave Me You! 😘🫶🏼
