A Shelton business was planning a full-day workshop and needed catering for the team.

But they didn’t want the day to feel like eight hours under fluorescent lights with a tray of sad sandwiches quietly giving up in the corner.

Rain wasn’t part of the wedding plan, but taking care of the couple was.

One Spice couple held their wedding during a pouring rainstorm, but that didn’t stop our team from setting up a beautiful buffet and keeping the celebration moving.

Their review said guests continued complimenting the food long after the wedding.

We love hearing that, but we’re equally proud of what happened behind the scenes: a team that showed up, adapted, and got the job done.

A secret location. A historic Connecticut farm. And a menu inspired by cookbooks from the Homestead itself.

Spice Catering Group was honored to return for Evening About Town, a fundraiser hosted by Ball & Socket Arts. We’ve been proud to help with this special event since 2017, and this year brought us to the Thayer-McKee Homestead at Brooksvale Farm in Cheshire.

For a gathering celebrating a property with such deep local roots, an ordinary menu simply wouldn’t do.

We looked to the Homestead’s own cookbooks for inspiration and created a farm-to-table meal that felt at home in the setting:

🥖 A harvest table with freshly baked biscuits, artisan meats and cheeses, soft ricotta, fig jam and golden honey

🌱 Garden-inspired seasonal accompaniments

🍋 Lemon-poached chicken

🐟 Poached salmon with creamy dill sauce

🍆 Grilled eggplant with ancient grains

🥧 Farm-to-table-inspired hand pies for dessert

From preparing rows of individual meals to building a harvest table worthy of the setting, every detail was designed to connect the food with the story of the evening.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by this week’s devastating storm - especially the Lighthouse Point Park team, the couples and families who planned celebrations at the Carousel Building, and the many local professionals connected to this beloved venue.

Lighthouse Point has been part of countless weddings, family celebrations, and community memories. Seeing the damage to such a special New Haven landmark is heartbreaking.

If your upcoming wedding or event has been affected and you’re suddenly trying to make new plans, Spice Catering Group would like to help in any way we reasonably can.

Our team may be able to assist with:

• Connecting you with alternative venues and trusted local event professionals
• Adjusting a menu or service plan to work in a new location
• Accommodating a shorter planning timeline when availability allows
• Providing catering for events taking place in the coming months or next year

We will, of course, work around the commitments we have already made to our existing couples and clients, but if you are unsure where to begin, please reach out. Even if we aren’t ultimately your caterer, we may be able to make a helpful connection or point you toward your next step.

This is a close-knit wedding and event community. Right now, the most important thing we can do is show up for one another.

We’re hoping for healing throughout our shoreline communities and, someday, the restoration of this treasured New Haven landmark. ❤️
