We are living through strange and trying times. The world is feeling different. Almost all of us find ourselves caught in a rare moment in time, where we are forced to slow down, almost still ourselves. As if in a photograph.

The current state of things has halted art shows, galleries are closed, and we are finding it more of a challenge to share in each other's lives. And yet, we still find creative and innovative ways of showing up for ourselves and others. Human connections persist, all be it, altered at the moment, but we can still reach out and find beauty. Find each other. We are finding new ways to tell our stories and share our experiences.

In the last few months I have been building a space online, to share my experience of the beauty I see in the world.
Today, at long last, I am very happy to invite you to my new online gallery you will find at Davidfrankphoto.com.

This is a virtual space where my work will live. I will be showing pieces that would have been hanging in my booth at art shows, but you now get to view them from the comfort of your own home.

This new website allows its patrons to order directly from it, customizing the final products as they wish, and I am very proud of the exciting options this space will allow. As always, I will remain available to help answer any inquiries or special requests, as if we were speaking in the shade of my bright white booth.

Until we can return to seeing eachother in person, I hope you find this space a respite from the tension in the world around us, helping you settle into the beauty of the moment.

I look forward to seeing you there,
David

I’ve got only two more shows this season. Only two more chances to see for yourself approximately 30 pieces representing many of the themes that have come to define my photographic output. And, frankly, this is the best way to be introduced to my work; seeing the photographs printed in sizes you might choose for your home, as well as getting to see the differences in media - comparing a print on fine art paper to another on canvas or on metal. Each has its place. A visit to my booth is the best introduction to David Frank Photography.

The first of the remaining shows is the Gracie Square Art Show, on Manhattan’s upper east side. The show is held in Carl Schurz Park on East End Avenue and 86th Street. This show is all fine art, and is usually a high point in the art fair season. Click this link (or copy and paste) for additional information:

The last show of the season brings me home to New Jersey. Only my second year participating, we had great fun last year at this high-quality fair.

So I hope to see you at one or another of these great venues. If you visit me, you will be among the first to experience an entirely new way of viewing and purchasing my work. If you want to check it out prior to these shows, go to www.davidfrankphoto.com. There is still a glitch or two you may find, but nonetheless, it is the only way to see the breadth of my photographic efforts.

This weekend we will be back in Garrison, New York on the lawn behind the art center, smack on the shore of the Hudson River for a wonderful small show. Definitely worth the trip. Come on up and experience the whole new way I have devised for checking out the breadth of work offered by DFP. It goes way beyond what you see in the booth. I am eager to show you how it works.

Day 5 of the 7-day B&W challenge
"Stillness"
This image was made on a hike through the Great Marsh - a fresh water marsh just off the salt water of the Delaware Bay. It was April so we expected to see signs of Spring, but this being just months after Hurricane Sandy tore through it was as if the marsh needed more time to lick its wounds. Typically, the marsh waters would be teeming with migrating birds putting down here for a drink and some rest before continuing their northward flight over the open water of the Delaware Bay. Instead, stillness reigned.

If you like this photo, be sure to check out days 1-4.

Staying in Florida for Day 4 of the 7 day black & white challenge. Today with two Pelicans who seem to embody the very blackness and whiteness of the challenge. I found these two with many others grooming in the shallows just off Cedar Key.

Shot with my Fuji X-Pro 2 fitted with a Fujinon 100-400 lens hand held.

Day 2 of the B&W challenge
Water Lilies at the NY Botanical Gardens
Here's the story - there were four of us taking this trip to the Botanical Gardens to see an exhibition of paintings by American impressionists and the gardens that motivated them. We arrived, I lifted my camera to my eye, pressed the shutter, and saw to my horror that I had a dead battery. And having taken the idea of traveling light a bit too far I had no replacement. Recalling my oft quoted notion that the best camera is the one you have with you, I fetched my iPhone from my pocket and shot a series of images that I am proud of and that have sold quite well. And here is one, rendered for the first time in black and white for your consideration.

Earlier today I received a challenge from a long-time friend writer and photographer JOEL HOFFMAN. His challenge? To post a B&W image with no people in it each day for a week. With this image - Nine Trees, Woodstock, NY - I officially accept his challenge.

I am in the middle of preparation for this weekend's Riverside Craft Fair, on the Hudson River in Garrison, NY. Tucked neatly between the Art Center and the river, this small show offers unmatched intimacy in a storybook setting just across the Hudson from West Point. We will be ready to greet you on Saturday and Sunday, August 19 and 20, from 10 to 5. It is an easy train ride from Grand Central on MetroNorth to Garrison station, which is located right next door to the show. Or, by car, you can stop at the show as part of a beautiful drive through Garrison, Cold Spring, Beacon and points north. And for the first time in these parts I will be showing a new collection of work shot in June on the coast of Maine. So eager to show them to you.
