Happy Earth Day, everyone! 🌎

If you’re like me, you worry about the impact that the wedding industry has on the environment. With so many decisions to make already, it can feel overwhelming to factor in something else. But it doesn’t have to be complicated, and it reduces your spending, too!

So here’s some of my favorite ways to create a sustainable, affordable, earth-friendly wedding day. These are things I’ve seen real couples do. If you have ideas to add, drop them in the comments below!

A few of my very favorite candid moments from A & J’s wedding in NH last weekend. They fully embraced the documentary-style approach, opting for observation over direction.

A common misconception about documentary wedding photography is that you can’t get those frame-worthy portraits — that you’ll miss out on flattering images of yourself, and that direction is necessary to achieve them.

I’m here to tell you, it’s not. Direction doesn’t always create ease. In fact, it can sometimes pull you out of the moment and make you less comfortable in front of the camera.

When you’re free to just be — to laugh, move, and connect naturally — the beauty and emotion unfold on their own. You don’t need direction from your photographer. You need to be seen by them.

I refuse to let people think their engagement session has to be something other than exactly what they want it to be. There’s no need to pose a certain way, go to a pretty spot you found on Instagram, or pretend to be anyone besides yourselves.

I rarely do family sessions anymore, but this one was near and dear to my heart.

I met the Sprotts over the winter when I was looking for a part-time nannying gig and we hit it off instantly. Sam and Jon took me in like family, and I started to see their little girl, Zoey, like a niece. Our days were spent playing at the park by their house, a place Sam and Jon take her regularly too. So naturally it made sense to do the session there.

What a privilege it has been to watch Zoey turn into an opinionated, smart, headstrong, silly, and sweet almost ONE year old! And what a privilege to be welcomed in as part of their little family. I love you guys!!!

There’s a reason my favorite moments look like stills from a film.

These images come from a mix of intention and surrender (both mine and the couple’s). It’s not about controlling the moment, but rather trusting people’s instincts and being ready when something really magical happens.

A little direction, and then a lot of space to just exist. When I give you a prompt, I step back and let you interpret it. You stop thinking about your hands or your angles. You start to relax, move, laugh, breathe. Then your story starts to tell itself— that’s what makes it cinematic.

Autumn was popping off in Golden Gate Canyon! 🍂 🍁 🍃

As fall reaches its peak in Denver and tips slowly into winter in the mountains, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible season it’s been.

You all have shown up in front of my camera brave, playful, generous, and honest. I feel so deeply honored to have spent my summer exploring Colorado with you!

I have one more week of fall Colorado engagement sessions before I fly back east for some shoots in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Boston!
