We invite you to join us for "Saturday Soirée," a special performance featuring Colorado Ballet Academy’s Pre-Professional Division on Saturday, October 10.
This captivating program features new contemporary works by three talented Colorado Ballet Academy instructors and choreographers: Bernadette Torres, Whitney Popp, and Keara Nichols. The evening offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the artistry and versatility of our Pre-Professional dancers as they bring these original works to life.
A Peek Behind the Choreography:
Bernadette Torres — "Where Three Meet"
Bernadette’s work brings together three distinct composers, three musical voices, and three different visions of ballet. Each section has its own character, from the romantic sweep of a flowing waltz to refined classical elegance, to a spirited and playful finale. Together, these contrasting works become one cohesive journey through the many faces of ballet, celebrating how different styles and voices can come together to create something beautiful.
Whitney Popp — "Click, Click, Boom"
Here’s a fun one: the music for Whitney’s piece is made entirely with vegetables! The music comes from the Vegetable Orchestra, so as you watch, you can have fun wondering what kind of “gourd” or onion might be creating each sound. Whitney also premiered this work at Perry-Mansfield in Steamboat Springs this summer, making this performance another exciting opportunity to experience her choreography.
Keara Nichols — "The World Keeps Turning"
Keara’s piece features three very different songs by Billy Joel, each with its own distinct mood and energy. The work begins with the warm, cozy feeling of "Piano Man," transitions into the more emotional and introspective "Vienna," and finishes with the explosive energy of "We Didn’t Start the Fire." Watch for the dancers’ changing movement quality and energy as they commit to each section. It’s a dynamic piece with many opportunities for these dancers to shine!
