You know the basics, but the thought of leading a real wedding makes your stomach drop.

I get it. You've read the blogs, maybe taken a course or two, but there's a gap between knowing what a timeline is and actually directing 150 people through a ceremony in the pouring rain.

That gap? It's not more theory. It's real-world ex*****on.

Here's how to bridge it:

1. Shadow experienced planners at real weddings. Book yourself as a second shooter or assistant coordinator for 3-5 events. You'll see what blogs don't teach: how to redirect a tipsy groomsman, calm a panicking mother of the bride, or pivot when the florist is running 45 minutes late.

2. Build your vendor network before you need it. Start attending local industry mixers, follow venue coordinators on Instagram, introduce yourself to florists and DJs at events. When you're leading your first wedding, you want to walk in knowing who to call if something goes sideways.

3. Create situation scripts for the top 10 things that go wrong. Late vendor? Guest emergency? Timeline running over? Write out exactly what you'd say and do. Practice it out loud. When the moment hits, you'll have muscle memory instead of panic.

4. Run mock coordination sessions with friends. Set up a fake ceremony space, assign roles, create problems on purpose. Practice your voice, your stance, your ability to give clear directions to a room full of people. Confidence comes from repetition.

5. Document everything you learn in a live-event notebook. After every wedding you attend or work, write down what went well, what surprised you, and what you'd do differently. This becomes your personal playbook.

The planners who look like naturals? They've just put in the reps. You can too.

I’ve been reflecting a lot lately about balancing new ventures, new routines, and stepping into unfamiliar seasons of life.

And honestly… it made me think about brides.

Wedding planning isn’t just logistics and pretty details.

It’s navigating:
new finances,
new responsibilities,
new family dynamics,
new excitement,
and sometimes… new stress too.
