๐Ÿคฉ We celebrate our wonderful alumna, Jan Sterling, who passed away 20-years ago today. She first came to Historic Elitch Theatre as part of the 1939 summer stock cast, and then returned in 1970 in the production Light Up The Sky. (The attached photo is from a 1953 visit to the theatre where she pointed out her summer stock photo.) Sterling won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.

RIP to Historic Elitch Theatre alumna, Barbara Rush! She appeared at our theatre twice, in 1982 and 1987.

For her 1987 appearance, playing Bess Steed Garner in A Woman of Independent Means, the Denver Post review commented: โ€œRushโ€™s final 10 minutes on stage, as she withers and dies before our eyes, is a moving technical feat.โ€

Happy Birthday Lynn Redgrave

03/08/2024

Today we celebrate International Women's Day by wishing a Happy Birthday to the late, Lynn Redgrave, an Elitch alumna. She appeared at the theatre in 1975 in The Two of Us, and then returned in 1977 in California Suite.

Michael Frayn, the reviewer from the Rocky Mountain News, said: "Let me state, straight out and with no reservation at all, that my favorite Redgrave is named Lynn." That is high-praise considering the fact that Redgrave comes from a family of accomplished actors, including her father, Sir Michael Redgrave, and her sister, Vanessa, who is certainly considered one of the best and has gone on to win an Academy Award, a Tony Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and an Olivier Award.

Today we celebrate her two appearances at the Historic Elitch Theatre!

โ€œIn a minor scene, set in the corner of a barn, the script of The Rainmaker called for (Dirk) Benedict to take off his shirt. Prolonged whistles and stompsโ€ฆerupted from the audience, and Benedict hung his head while he waited.โ€ [Rocky Mountain News, July 27, 1979]

Happy Birthday, Dirk Benedict!

The review from Benedict's 1979 appearance at the Historic Elitch Theatre was clearly a "rave"! We're thrilled to have him among the legendary alumni of our Historic Elitch Theatre! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฉ

Happy Birthday, John Raitt!

Check out this rehearsal photo from 1976 when Raitt was at Elitch Theatre and rehearsing Shenandoah.

Now we're just hoping to have come to the theatre for a fundraiser to preserve this cultural institution! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฅฐ
