The Poison of Knowledge is a suspended floral installation conceived in the sculptural, provocative manner Williams has become known for. Lush, cascading forms of entwined botanicals descend from above like a forbidden canopy, their beauty both seductive and unsettling. At its core, a single, luminous apple—gilded with reflective, metallic materials—serves as the focal fruit of temptation, symbolizing Eve’s fall from the Garden.
The work interlaces the natural and the artificial: living florals merge with wires, circuitry, and fragmented technological components, vines that pulse with intrusion rather than growth. Dark foliage, bruised petals, and flora in varying stages of life and decay spiral downward in tension, evoking both the abundance of paradise and the inevitability of exile.
Through this union of seduction and disquiet, the installation confronts the control and manipulation of information in the digital age. Technology—shaped by power, branded as brilliance—becomes our modern forbidden fruit, luring humanity toward reliance and surrender as it consumes autonomy and erodes independent thought.
