This might be a long post so buckle up. Some of you may have heard the news already, but we are planning on closing That Game Place. In some ways it was a tough decision, but in other ways it was a very easy one.
Business wise, we are doing fine. We were never really as busy as we wanted to be, but we always had enough support to keep the doors open and the bills paid to provide (what I think) was a really cool place for Decatur. The decision ultimately came down to time. Anyone who knows us personally, knows that our lives have changed a bit since we opened last year. Because of this, it's became difficult to put the time into the business that we need to and also have time for family. Ultimately, it came down to choosing between the two on how to spend our time and that was obviously an easy decision.
This all started with hosting game nights at the Riverside Center. It was such a blast (and also a pain moving and setting all of that up) to put that on for the community. We had such a good support system of friends and family who helped with that and we wouldn't be where we are now without them. So if you are one of those people, thank you so much!
I’m really going to miss the day-to-day of this place and most of all I’ll miss the connections that I've made with everyone. Getting to know so many of you, hearing your stories, and sharing ours in return was the best part of this whole experience. That’s what made That Game Place special: the people. We’re not going anywhere—we’re still here, and we hope you’ll stop us to chat whenever we cross paths. It's time for us to slow down a bit and focus on our family. I don't know what the future holds, but who knows, we may be back in some form down the road.
With all of that said, our plan is to be open to the public for the next two weekends and also honor whatever prior events that we have scheduled. Our last day open to the public will be December 1st.
We don't have a solid plan for this yet, but we are also selling most of our inventory (we are keeping the majority of the board games though). So, if you are interested in anything, reach out to us.
There were also several people who donated items to us and I think I've done a decent job on keeping track of everything that was donated. So, if you would like any of that back, you are more than welcome to pick it up sometime before we close.
To end this unnecessarily long post, I just want to thank everyone who supported us the past year and a half and I want to give our regulars an extra thank you. Without you guys we wouldn't have been able to be successful and I will miss you all.
