Ralph’s life carried the quiet sacredness of a person who showed up, helped, built, carried, created, and made room for others.
He holds a special place in the story of art and community in Dearborn. Ralph was the first person to move into the internationally recognized City Hall Artspace Lofts, stepping into a new chapter of creative living in the city. He also became the first artist to work with Homage to Black Excellence through its first Artisan Marketplace promotion team in Dearborn, Michigan, following an invitation connected with Mayor O’Reilly.
These photographs hold more than moments. They hold evidence of Ralph’s hands at work.
You can see him building, carrying, installing, preparing, creating, supporting artists, helping with community events, and simply being present wherever something needed to be done. Whether it was City Hall Artspace, an exhibition, a marketplace, a seasonal installation, or a gathering of artists and neighbors, Ralph brought his willingness to help.
Some people leave behind titles.
Some leave behind possessions.
And some leave behind the memory of how dependable their presence felt.
Ralph was always helpful.
His artistry was not only in what he made with his hands. It was also in the way he contributed his time, labor, creativity, patience, and presence to a growing artistic community.
As we honor Ralph, we remember the beginning moments—the boxes, the ladders, the installations, the gallery walls, the handmade creations, the laughter, the photographs, and the people standing together because something beautiful was being built.
