One of Georgia’s most unique small-town spots to grab a bite is the Dawsonville Pool Room in Dawsonville, Georgia…a longtime local hangout filled with Bill Elliott and Chase Elliott NASCAR history. This place has been around for decades and is known just as much for racing as it is for burgers. When you walk inside, the walls are covered from floor to ceiling with photos, trophies, newspaper clippings, and all kinds of racing gear tied to the Elliott family. It feels more like a NASCAR shrine than a restaurant. The menu is simple and straight to the point, built around the famous Bully Burger. Each one is hand-pattied, cooked fresh when you order, and served hot off the grill. You can pair it with fresh-cut fries or thick, crispy onion rings. The prices are fair, the portions are solid, and the staff treats you like a regular even if it’s your first time. If you love NASCAR or old-school Southern diner vibes, this place is well worth the stop.

Happy 89th Birthday to Gordon Pirkle!

Today, the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame proudly celebrates Gordon Pirkle on his 89th birthday.

Gordon is the longtime owner of the iconic Dawsonville Pool Room, a place that holds deep roots in our community and racing heritage from the Bully Burger to the SIREEEEEN. For decades, the Pool Room has been more than a gathering spot — it has been a cornerstone of Dawsonville history and a symbol of the spirit that helped shape North Georgia racing culture.

In addition to his many contributions, Gordon is the founder of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame & was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023. His induction honors a lifetime of dedication, leadership, and support of the people and traditions that make Dawsonville special.

Gordon Pirkle truly represents the heart of Dawsonville — hardworking, humble, and deeply committed to community and history. We are grateful for him and wish him a very happy 89th birthday.

Our very own, Mr. Gordon Pirkle has been listed as one of the top 15 finalists to be inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (GRHOF). The class of 2023 will be announced this upcoming Friday.

Although, we are very biased, we feel no one is more deserving than Gordon Pirkle to be inducted into this hall of fame. The Georgia Racing Hall of Fame was a dream come true for Gordon. He has put countless amount of hours and personal money to keep the GRHOF up and running! He is certainly proud of the Dawsonville Pool Room, but we think he may be just a little more proud of the legacy of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame!

Join us in congratulating Gordon, whether he makes it in the class of 2023 or not, we are beyond proud of everything he has done and continues to do!
