Malpaso Dance Company brings contemporary Cuban works by international choreographers, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns with a program that looks forward and back, featuring four 2025 premieres alongside Alvin Ailey’s timeless Revelations. Circus of Fifths Exhibit by Katherine Venturelli

Regional artist Katherine Venturelli’s new series, Circus of Fifths, is a visual homage to John Coltrane, arriving just in time for the centennial celebration of the jazz icon’s birth.

In 1967, Coltrane drew his interpretation of the music theory Circle of Fifths diagram, which shows the relationships between the 12 tones of the chromatic scale, the connections between musical keys, and how key signatures are structured.

Working over several years, Venturelli created ten editions of nine etching prints using oil based inks on paper, two of which will be displayed in rotation at the Mondavi Center as part of the centennial celebration of John Coltrane.
