Interesting history
Ebert Funeral Home - 1921
Clarence D. Ebert, junior member of the firm of "Ruhl & Ebert," funeral directors, left his partnership and opened his own funeral home on August 1, 1921, in the old H. Sieg residence at 614 Main Street, which was built in 1878. For a short while, Clarence's brother John E. Ebert became associated with him in the business.
In September of 1922, Clarence entered into a new partnership with Arthur F. Denkmann, and the funeral home then operated as "Ebert & Denkmann."
That partnership was then dissolved in October of 1923, and the Halligan Funeral Company opened its new funeral home at that location. The Halligan Company was managed by George J. McCabe.
Clarence's brother John Ebert moved to St. Johns, Michigan. In March of 1926, he and Glenn England shared in a $2,500 reward when they were instrumental in bringing a group of bank robbers to conviction.
