GC Wrestlers Showed Out This Weekend!

Our athletes crushed it in individuals and duals, bringing home a ton of hardware 🏆🔥

In duals, we had two full Gulf Coast teams compete in the HS and K-8 divisions, plus others who joined elite teams across the board.

🚨Girls Duals Highlights
We had 3 girls represent GC in both freestyle and folkstyle.
• Ava (NC National)
Her team placed 1st in the Silver Pool.
• Addie & Lydia (Alabama Elite Gold)
Their team placed 2nd in the Bronze Pool and 3rd in the Bronze Pool.

🚨 Myles went 7-3 in the K-4 duals, helping his team take 1st in the Silver Pool.

🚨 The HS Team started off tough, opening against the eventual 4th-place finisher. But they bounced back undefeated on Day 2!
Shoutout to Noah, our HS All-American!

🚨 The K-8 Team went 9-2, finishing 8th out of 38 teams! They were a dominant force all weekend, picking up big wins over tough competition. Special shoutout to Liam and Logan, our K-8 All-Americans!

Congrats to our first 14u Team Alabama National team wrestler, Jonathan! We anticipate many more to come up over the coming years! Our own Coach Caleb also got to coach Team Alabama at the tournament in Philadelphia this past weekend. So many amazing matches and one of the toughest tournaments out there! We ended with 9 duals wrestling Rhode Island, Oklahoma, South Carolina, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Idaho, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

💥 Wrestler Spotlight! 💥

Gulf Coast is proud to recognize a few of our youth wrestlers who’ve been crushing it on the mats these past few weeks! 🥇🤼‍♂️

🔥 Liam Crousillac took 1st place in both his 10U & 11U brackets at Bootleggers and went 11-1 on the weekend, including duals!

🔥 Roman Rodriguez earned 2nd place in both 8U & 9U brackets, went undefeated, and was named 8U Duals MVP! He also took 1st place in both 8u and 9u at Southern Throne.

🔥 PJ Rodriguez battled hard and brought home 3rd & 4th in his 6U brackets at Bootleggers. He also took 4th in his 6u bracket at Southern Throne.

🔥 Mason Mattevi showed up strong at Southern Throne, taking 2nd & 3rd in his 11U brackets.

We’re incredibly proud of these wrestlers and all they’ve accomplished. Back to the grind as Deep South Nationals is right around the corner!

Bootleggers Nationals! We took a 15u team and they took 3rd out of 16 teams. 9 of our wrestlers are from Alabama and I’m stoked to see how competitive Alabama wrestlers are becoming. 3 of our wrestlers (Jonathan, Karter, Brandon - next pic) went undefeated and scored bonus points on everyone they wrestled. Great job everyone, now go rewatch your matches and get to work!

No practice tomorrow. Rob McFadden, a Spanish Fort wrestler, was in a bad accident and there will be a community prayer at 6:00pm at Spanish Forts High School Practice field. I am sure his family would enjoy the support. Rob also was one of Coach Brent’s first youth state champions and is a national merit scholar recipient.
