Visit Damascus, Virginia Damascus, Virginia, Trail Town USA is a beautiful small town destination at the heart of the Virginia Creeper Trail and Appalachian Trail.

Walkable and pet-friendly downtown. Gateway to Mount Rogers High Country. Home of Appalachian Trail Days Festival. Damascus is a small town with a big claim to fame: Seven nationally known trails intersect within our town limits, making Damascus "Trail Town USA". In fact, the simple act of taking a stroll downtown means interacting with at least one of our trail systems in some way or another. Thanks to the efforts of our community - local government, dedicated staff, scores of volunteers, and residents - we've found ways to turn these trails and our other outdoor recreation resources into a source of local pride and community revitalization. We cherish the lifestyle that this affords us. It’s the sounds of families enjoying the Virginia Creeper Trail. It’s the creativity found in our downtown artisans. It’s the intermingling of cultures as the hikers signal the Spring-time with their arrival on the Appalachian Trail. It’s the taste of the signature beer at our local microbrewery. It’s the inspiration of the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in our backyard. It’s the conversations, the sharing of stories and shaping of memories, and the smiles of a welcoming community. The Damascus lifestyle is adventurous and creative, yet relaxed. It’s a place where you can be super-active (ultramarathons, anyone?), or where you can slow down to reconnect with nature, rejuvenate, and find your inner peace. It's a place where you can take time to make memories with friends and family. Most importantly, this is a place where you can find your own path. We cherish this lifestyle, and know you will too. Get your tickets now for The Riverside w/ special guest Trevor McKenzie on October 17th. It'll be The Cardinal Music Hall's first show in their new location!

When we opened the The Cardinal Music Hall back in March The Riverside was one of the first bands that we reached out to. We are very fortunate to be a part of their 2026 national tour!

Tickets are moving very fast and this is their only show in Virginia so make sure to get tickets soon before they are gone.

Our good friend Trevor McKenzie will be opening up the night. He’s one of the best fiddle players in Appalachia. Be ready to be blown away by his talent!

See you all on October 17th!

Join us in welcoming Isaiah Thomas as Damascus town manager!

For Isaiah Thomas, this opportunity is especially meaningful because of his deep roots in Washington County and personal connection to Damascus. He grew up in the area, attended Rhea Valley Elementary, Damascus Middle, and Holston High Schools, and later earned degrees from Virginia Highlands Community College and East Tennessee State University. Today, he lives with his wife and two children on his family farm in Washington County, continuing a connection to the land and community that has shaped much of his life.

Most recently, Thomas served as the Economic Development Specialist for the Town of Abingdon, where he worked in business development, infrastructure, housing, grant administration, and regional partnerships. Before entering local government, he spent seven years in private industry throughout Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

“Damascus has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, so having the opportunity to come home and serve this community means a great deal to me,” said Thomas. “My family and I are proud to call this area home, and I am excited to work alongside the Town Council, our staff, residents, businesses, and community partners as we continue moving Damascus forward.”

Mayor Katie Lamb says, "We are super excited to have Isaiah as our new Town Manager. I feel that his love for Damascus really shines through. He was right here with us before, during, and after Helene. He knows where we have been, where we need to be, and he is willing to put in the work to get us there. Many thanks to Chris Bell! He has been a rockstar throughout his time with us. We will continue to move forward, and Isaiah will be a tremendous asset."
