The National Awards for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival have been announced and I am pleased to tell you our production of Self-Injurious Behavior by Jessica Cavanagh has received 3 recognitions.

The Citizen Artist Award is given to recognize programs in higher education using theatrical production to promote long-term societal impact through an artistic lens, to encourage empathetic exploration of the complex cultural and physical world, and to advocate for justice on campus and throughout the world.

We are one of 20 productions in the United States to receive this award.

Distinguished Achievement in the Facilitation of a Brave Rehearsal Space is given to celebrate teaching artists who create a rehearsal room community that prioritizes the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of their student artists; empowering them to safely engage with challenging theatrical stories. We are one of 9 productions in the United States to receive this award.

Distinguished Achievement in Stage Management
Freshman, Ava Stipe, is one of 17 students in the United States to receive this award.

I am very proud of the students who worked so diligently to accomplish this. Thank you, Jessica, for allowing us to share your beautiful play with Colleges and Universities in the United States.

I thought y'all might like a glimpse at what the Richland Theater Scene Shop looks like freshly painted and organized this summer. What student wouldn't want to learn how to build BIG ART in this dynamic space? When I look around the room, I see empowering and transformative tools and raw materials brimming with creative potential. It really is an amazing place to learn and create. May it continue to serve and inspire creative, curious, and motivated Design and Technical Theater students for decades to come.
