At some Reform Jewish weddings that take place on a Saturday evening, the rabbi will conduct the “Havdalah” ceremony before the signing of the Ketubah.

The “Havdalah” is a ceremony that separates the holy Shabbat from the regular days of the week. A blessing is said over wine, a symbol of joy, then over sweet spices, to comfort the soul and a multi-wicked candle is lit.
