Just finished this luxurious suite. We used a creamy ecru cotton paper, grey letterpress and gold foil. We custom died hand torn silk ribbon the richest deepest plum to match the rsvp envelopes. A wax seal adorns the silk ribbon.

This certificate was done all in classic black hand calligraphy. I created an 18” wide grayscale watercolor rendering that covered the entire width of the certificate, of the couple’s wedding venue.

Here is a certificate I created this week. It features modern hand calligraphy in glossy black and gold ink. The flowers are stylistic versions of lavender, ferns, and snow drops.

Today, I visited the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and I'm so glad I did! It's a very small museum, with only 2 exhibits at a time. One of the exhibits that was on display (and ending this weekend) was "For Hire: Contemporary Sign Painting in America ". As a calligrapher, I have always been drawn to hand painted signs, so I was naturally pumped to see this quirky exhibit. Showcased were hand painted signs from several artists. Most were newish (3-5 years experience), but most touching to me was an artist with 48 years of experience. It was simple signs in all orange, but the skill involved was effortless perfection. It made my heart soar to see he signed in the lower right corner of each sign. I'm sure 48 years ago he didn't, nor did anybody else, consider his work art or think he'd ever be in an art gallery. But there it was. Beautiful. Simple. Art. It reminded me to keep my eyes always open and to treasure the beauty that we see everyday and not take it for granted.
