Attention Patrons, Vendors, Exhibitors, and

Mark here. For those of you who do not know me, I am one of the show runners for Akron Authors Con.

It has been brought to our attention that there was use of an AI image for a post regarding a marketing photo. Admittedly, this is on me - I reached out to someone whom I thought was an artist - someone skilled at photoshop as they have assisted me in the past - and asked them to help me find an image to use on our post.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that they used an image generation tool. This individual is no longer in our employ.

We hear and understand your concerns about the use of AI. We, myself included, will never encourage anyone to use AI over ‘natural’ creation.

It has also been brought to our attention that some of you are under the impression that we are encouraging AI authors to attend our event. Nothing, and I mean ‘NOTHING,’ could be farther from the truth. We are not in the business of replacing true artistry, writing, and humanity with Artificial Intelligence.

While I personally take full responsibility for this person’s choices, we as a convention staff hope you understand this was a simple mistake and no ill intent was intended.

We sincerely apologize for giving you the wrong impression and hope we can move forward towards our mutual goal — of supporting, celebrating, and showcasing true literary works.
