This one is bittersweet.

A little over a year ago, I started this open mic from a place of heartbreak and heaviness. I had lost pieces of myself, pieces of people I loved, and I felt disconnected from the music scene and the community that once felt like home.

Divine Open Mic was a saving grace.
Every Wednesday became a lifeline, a space where voices rang, hearts opened, and I began to feel alive again. Seeing all of my favorite humans on a weekly bases, smiling, laughing, cheering, engaging- allowed me to feel whole. It was like being stiched back together again.

This past year has brought a new chapter.
I’ve slowed down, I’ve breathed deeper, and I’ve poured more love into my home and my family. As a bonus, I accepted a position at Herberich Primary School, where I get to use my gifts as an educator. Working with those incredible kids has become one of the most fulfilling, joyful experiences of my life. My heart feels steady and full in ways I have longed for.

And so, with gratitude and so much love, it’s time for me to step back.

Thank you, Renee, not only one of my best friends, but the heartbeat of Divine. Thank you for giving me this stage, this space, and this chance to come alive again.

Thank you, Jackson, for inspiring me, guiding me, and believing in what this could be.

Thank you to Frank, who held down the fort on percussion every single week. Your rhythm kept us centered.

Thank you to the servers, bartenders, and kitchen crew who make Divine one of the best scratch kitchens around. You are the quiet magic behind every night.

And to every local musician in the Akron community: thank you for keeping each Wednesday warm, wild, and full of soul. You kept my heart safe. You kept it beating.

As I step away, I’m excited to welcome Kevin Brosien as the new host of Divine Open Mic. Please show him the same love, warmth, and creative fire that you’ve shown me.

This isn’t goodbye, just a new verse in the same song.
Thank you for saving me, for loving me back to myself.

Thank you all for coming out and making last night as perfect as ever.
Our community is filled with such incredibly talented singer-songwriters and my heart is full after sharing the night with you all.

Extra love to Bev, who opened her heart and shared such beautiful words, I absolutely love when you share with us.

And a big shoutout to Renne for always bringing such creative energy and for hosting us in the beautiful space that is Divine. Thank you for setting the vibe. The reader, the moon water, the crystals, every detail made the night feel magical.

Open mic was perfection and I’m so grateful.

⚡️This is Divine’s 1 year Open Mic and and we’re celebrating by showcasing two staples in our community:

WJB. We all know that I learned Jackson a few great many things in life. Like butter chicken, how to be the best reader in an audition, how to properly take a great photo by a trashcan, to rock out wearing green shades and a green sweater, how to blush on camera, to remember the lyrics to Dreams by Fleetwood Mac (he always forgets them), gelato… I mean, the list goes on.

But nothing compares to all he has gifted me-
The gift of running/hosting an open mic.

Divine Open Mic started with the influence, experience, and guidance from The incomparable Jackson Boling. Which is truly saying, we wouldn’t be here without the beautiful blonde hair, blue eyed, jukebox Jackson

Frank Kuta. A name that’s been woven into the heartbeat of Open Mic since day one. He never misses a night. Drums intact, smile wide, energy too cool for school but it’s more than the rhythm he brings. It’s the sincerity in every glance, the genuine warmth in every moment, the way he shows up not for applause, but for the music, the people, the community.

He is a precious gem, a quiet force holding the space together, a vital pulse that keeps our nights alive. Without him, the stage would feel a little emptier, the room a little dimmer. He carries tradition and joy in equal measure, bridging hearts with every beat of the drum, reminding us what it means to show up fully, to be real, to be present.

Frank isn’t just part of Open Mic he is Open Mic. A cornerstone. A steady flame. A gift to every one of us lucky enough to share these nights with him.

To honor this beautiful milestone, I’ve chosen five incredible feature artists to light up each of our October gatherings.

First up is the incomparable Kathy Johnson, a legendary musician whose talent and humor have a way of lifting the air in any room. Kathy’s presence is like a familiar song you never tire of hearing: warm, witty, and full of soul.

Join us Wednesday, October 1 as we celebrate not only a year of open mic magic, but one of the hearts that has helped shape it. Akron wouldn’t be the same without Kathy Johnson… and truly, neither would Divine Open Mic.
