We have a new addition to the Oakwood Lane Team:

Meet Virginia 😊 Virginia is our family dairy cow. We just brought her home this year. She has a very sweet personality and loves people. So, please feel free to go and say hello.
Her fence is electric so please be careful, it's not dangerous but could give a surprising jolt!

We have had many people comment on how skinny she looks so we wanted to address those concerns here. Virginia is very healthy. She gets as much fresh pasture as she wants, and if she's eaten everything down before we can rotate her, she gets all the hay she can eat. We supplement with corn or oats, and she always has access to minerals and water.

She looks skinny because she is a dairy cow. Dairy cows convert most of their food into milk, not beef and fat like other breeds of cattle. It is actually extremely unhealthy for dairy cows to carry extra weight. It threatens to throw their bodies into ketosis.
