From Elena Reyes: “Most of you know me as the Bath & Body Works girl, but here’s a fun fact about me — I actually play saxophone professionally!
I don’t usually ask for much, but I’m willing to work hard for this dream. I’m currently trying to save up money to attend this year’s 16th Jazz Festival near Washington, D.C. My favorite saxophonist, Gerald Albright, is headlining the festival along with many other amazing artists. My biggest goal is to finally MEET Gerald!
I’ve never stopped playing since middle school, and this year marks 17 years of playing saxophone… which is CRAZY to think about! I feel old! But music has always been such a huge part of my life, and this trip would mean everything to me. I’m currently working on releasing my own music compositions and becoming more involved in the jazz and smooth jazz world. I’ve been practicing nonstop, and I’m finally ready to take my shot.
With that being said, the trip is a little out of my budget. BUT — I am NOT asking for money.
What I am asking is if there are any restaurants, venues, or local businesses that would be willing to book me for gigs to help me reach my goal. I want to work for what I have and earn my way to D.C. for July 14th–17th of this year.
For those of you who may not know Gerald Albright, he is a 9-time Grammy nominee and has performed with legendary artists like Whitney Houston and Anita Baker — even as a bassist! I could go on and on about his accomplishments, but I’ve been following and listening to Gerald for years. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest saxophonists of our lifetime.
If you’d like to help support me by booking a performance or sharing this post, I would truly appreciate it! I’ll also be posting the costs for the trip. I’m hoping to get at least two tickets since the drive is about 11 hours, and I’ll be bringing a loved one with me.
I’ve dreamed of meeting Gerald for years, and this year I’m determined to make it happen. Who knows… maybe I’ll even get the chance to play on stage with him because YES — I’m bringing my saxophone!
Gerald Albright, I’m praying I get to see you this year!
And yes… I’m driving, not flying. Flights are SO expensive.
Thank you so much, friends!”
