What to do with fresh Elder blossoms from the Blackberry Food Co-op? (Side note, I do have Elderberry bushes but they’re still very small and you have to leave 90% of your blooms each year or you won’t get flowers the next year.)
Why make sirop de fleurs de suraux…
Or for you anglophones, Elder Flower Sirup, delightful diluted with sparkling water, added to Prosecco with a sprig of mint, or drizzled on some rice flour pancakes!
Come to the South Valley Farmers Market this Saturday to pick up a half pint of this ephemeral sweet treat that symbolizes the end of Spring and the beginning of summer.

I love Digitalis season! These white digitalis were grown from seed, it has taken 3 years to get blooms! It’s named “Snow Thimble.”
It had a low germination rate, and a high root rot rate. So it was a challenge to get these flowers to this stage.
Local flowers grown patiently and sustainably are such a joy to fill your home with!
The second photo is Campanula, amazingly long vase life with sturdy blooms. It takes 2 years to get flowers from these plants.
Compared to Dahlias, these spring flowers are not cut and come again, and once the harvest is completed there will be no more.
This is why I have to charge $20 for a market bouquet. Talent, patience, love, and resources go into the production of my flowers. I do not purchase flowers from the grocery store, or other farmers, I carefully sow, plant, nurture, and hand harvest each blossom.
I do have a close friend who allows me to cut her roses, mainly because until I have a deer fence, my rose bushes are deer snacks.
I give her plants and eggs and deadhead her roses for her. I grow plants she requests on the farm that she doesn’t have the space to grow.
I’m excited to have these flowers available at the Blackberry Food Co-op, the South Valley Farmer’s Market, the Bookmine, and the Flower Basket!
Buy local flowers and enjoy the diversity!

Not your typical Buttercup, I have been nurturing the Trollius for 3 years and finally have material to add to my bouquets!
Yeah, supermarket bouquets are cheaper, but the flowers come from far away, are usually older than my market bouquets (were cut a week or more before getting to the stores, filled with preservatives… traveling on planes, trains and automobiles to get to you.)
The environmental impact of the floral industry is not negligible-but local floral production supports your pollinators. And every dollar spent at a small business stays in your community and usually returns to you 3-fold.
Skip the supermarket flowers and grab a locally grown bouquet of flowers today!
