Summer is upon us — celebrate the sunshine with music that brings just as much joy! ☀️🎻

We're proud to partner with the Corvallis Folklore Society to bring Irish trio Open The Door For Three to PRAx on July 25 at 7 p.m. in Detrick Hall.

Good friends meet great musicians as the trio includes the fiddle, the uilleann pipes (aka the Irish pipes and the national bagpipes of Ireland), and the bouzouki, a Southeast European stringed instrument in the lute family.

Be prepared to experience unique instruments and enjoy energetic tunes — the perfect backdrop for your summer vibes!

In our ever-changing world of technology, we all have our own opinions on AI: How do we use AI as a tool in any ethical ways? How might it help or hurt our communities? How do we live in a world where AI is rapidly evolving, and evolve alongside it?

🥁 Drum up your excitement for our 2025-26 PRAx artist-in-residence, percussionist Andy Akiho!

And yes, pun intended — ba dum tss! 😉

Among many other titles, Akiho is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and seven-time Grammy-nominated composer known for bold works that challenge the boundaries and patterns of classical music.

As part of Andy Akiho's residency, he will have three performances throughout the season, one each term. Here's our lineup:

1️⃣ 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗔𝗸𝗶𝗵𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 │ Sept. 26 │ The composer himself appears on steel pans and percussion with his ensemble.
2️⃣ 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗸𝗶𝗵𝗼 │ Feb. 5 │ Akiho works with OSU student musicians who will showcase his works in solo performances and ensembles.
3️⃣ 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘅 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗔𝗸𝗶𝗵𝗼: 𝗕𝗲𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗱, 𝗕𝗲𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱, 𝗕𝗲𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 │ Sept. 26 │ Akiho’s powerful work, commissioned by Imani Winds, was inspired by the sounds heard at a Brooklyn detention center. Akiho workshopped the piece with incarcerated young men at Rikers Island.

🎹 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝗮𝘇𝘇 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲: Performing a piece on two towns that were vital places of opportunity and refuge for Black Oregonians in the first half of the 20th century
🇨🇺 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗮: One of the most renowned Cuban 𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑠 of all time and member of the famed Buena Vista Social Club

Join us in Detrick Hall on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. with artist and filmmaker Sky Hopinka to view and discuss his film "Małni—Towards the Ocean, Towards the Shore."

Hopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation/Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians) explores the origin of the death myth from the Chinookan people in the Pacific Northwest and follows two people as they wander through their surrounding nature, the spirit world, and something much deeper inside.
