We are proud to shine a light on Martin Shalita, one of our talented Frost School of Music MVP alumni.
Martin Shalita, tenor (D.M.A. ’07)
A native of Miami, Florida, tenor Martin Shalita holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal performance from the University of South Florida and a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Miami. He began his professional career with Deutsche Oper am Rhein, performing leading and supporting roles in La cenerentola, Giocasta, Don Carlos, Fidelio, and Il tabarro. At Theater Koblenz, he gained recognition for roles including Don Ottavio, Tamino, Orpheus, Andres, Araquil, Steuermann, Paolino, Ivan, and Admeto, as well as appearances as Tony in West Side Story and Magaldi in Evita. Subsequent engagements include Des Grieux in Manon, Lt. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Calaf in Turandot, Edwin in Die Csárdásfürstin, and Erik in Der fliegende Holländer. As a concert artist, Dr. Shalita has appeared with major European and American ensembles in works by Orff, Bartók, Britten, Handel, Rossini, Schubert, and Beethoven and has performed Die Schöne Müllerin, Liederkreis, and Don Quichotte in recital. He has collaborated with conductors such as John Fiore, Robert Shaw, Marco Boemi, and Wen-Pin Chien and is a two-time first-prize winner of the Leopold’s Kron Competition in Salzburg.
