🎵 SHIRLEY KINTNER: LTOB OPRY Singer, Actor & New Vice President
Liberty Theatre ~ North Bend, OR.
Coos County
Meet Shirley Kintner, who was recently voted in as LTOB’s volunteer Vice President. Shirley has been on the board in one capacity or another for about fourteen years; she’s been directing Opry even longer.
In high school, Shirley wanted to be an actress, performing in a number of shows, including playing Dolly in Hello, Dolly! But once Shirley started having children, she felt too busy to pursue the stage. That changed when she auditioned for LTOB’s Opry. “If my husband (a doctor) was on call, it was no problem,” Shirley says. “The boys just came along with me and sat on stage, even if it was in front of a live audience.” The first time Shirley performed on the Liberty stage, she was eight months pregnant with her daughter.
“I’ve been in almost all the board positions,” Shirley says. “I enjoy volunteering. It’s a great opportunity. I think everybody should try it.” In fact, encouraging others to volunteer at the theatre has become one of Shirley’s strengths.
When she’s not volunteering at the theatre, Shirley loves to bake her famous sourdough bread, to knit, and to keep busy. “Because I was able to include my family in Opry so many years ago,” Shirley says, “I’ve grown very fond of the theater and feel it even opened the door for my daughter in her first job as a news reporter for KCBY and KVAL. Her experience on the stage prepared her. I encourage everybody to get involved in the theater. Don’t just drop off your kids, go through those doors and get involved; roll up your sleeves and become a volunteer!”
