I was helping one of my fellow DJs with a wedding recently, and the venue was incredibly less than accommodating.

They were breathing down my friend's neck all day & night; they have strict policies in place regarding DJs and, as their treatment of us displayed, they absolutely do not care about DJs, which was also confirmed by the experiences of others we've talked to.

There are always punches to every job that DJs have to roll with, and neither my friend or I are ones to just complain for no good reason. Even the guests were uncomfortable about many aspects of the day.

All I can say is that this is one venue that I have no desire to work in again.

The only thing that matters though, is that the newlyweds and their immediate guests had the time of their lives and danced the entire night, right up to the last minute.

That's the mark of a great DJ, which my friend and I both are.

Here's a tip for fellow DJs who also earn some money by driving passengers:

When you make a custom DJ mix, edit the metadata so that the artist is your DJ name, the track title is your phone number, and the album title is your email address.

The reason for doing this is because your car's media player displays that track information.

So, if your passengers like what they hear, they can take a picture of your vehicle's screen to get your contact information.

It's important to note that this will not work if you upload your mix to a streaming platform like Mixcloud.

In order to achieve these results, you'll have to copy your MP3, etc, directly to your phone's internal storage.

Daver, My DJ and voice skills wouldn't be as good as they are if it weren't for you. You were one of the most supportive friends I ever had. I will always remember our more recent holiday get-togethers with Brian and Chucker. RIP my friend.

This post inspired fellow DJs who run bigger businesses with more expanded menus than mine to offer me advice on various ways that I could add such services to my brand.

And, respectfully, I'm just not interested in doing so.

I became a DJ because I want to DJ. Not run a photo booth, etc.

That's why I'm so happy to represent those bigger companies by DJing under their label.

I really don't care whose name the job is under. And someone else can bear the responsibilities of those extra services.

Can we please normalize not ghosting DJs after inquiring?

We spend time responding to inquiries, checking availability, answering questions, creating custom quotes, and helping you find the best fit for your celebration.

If you decide to go a different direction, that’s completely okay. If you’re not ready to book, that’s okay too.

But a simple, “Thank you, but we’ve decided to go another route," or, “We’re going to hold off for now" goes a long way.

DJs are real people behind the screen, not automated booking systems. A 10-second message provides closure and allows us to move forward instead of wondering if you’re still interested.

Kindness costs nothing, and communication is always appreciated.
