Dear Continental Community,
As we reflect on this year's Continental Fall Festival, we are once again overwhelmed by the incredible spirit and unity that define our town. This festival is more than an event - it's a testament to who we are as a community, and this year proved it more than ever before.
Our 19th annual car show shattered all previous records with over 170 entries - a number that had Rob Olds and his team working non-stop to accommodate every beautiful machine. Wyatt's Walk brought runners from across Northwest Ohio to honor a young life while supporting future scholarships. Our karaoke contest drew fifteen contestants from Toledo to Findlay, all welcomed like family by a crowd that cheered every single performance. From the Small Engine Poker Run featuring everything from dirt bikes to one determined lawn mower, to the parachuting army men floating down from Powell Creek's bucket truck, from the Snoopy mural painted by our students to the parade down Main Street, every moment showcased Continental at its absolute best.
None of this magic happens without sacrifice. To the Fall Festival Committee, your nine months of planning and countless hours of preparation, setup, and teardown made all of this possible. You worked through exhaustion, solved problems no one else even noticed, and created something beautiful for our community. From Thursday morning setup until Sunday's final cleanup, you gave everything. Your dedication is the foundation of this festival's success. Thank you is inadequate, but it's all we have.
Leading our sponsors are two families who've made Continental their life's work. H&K Chevrolet Inc., now 65 years strong and still family-owned by the Winkles, you don't just sponsor - you are woven into the fabric of this community. You employ our neighbors, sponsor our youth sports with your logo on countless jerseys, support our schools, and make our festival possible year after year. Wollam AG Landscaping - approaching your centennial with four generations of family dedication, you transformed your parking lot into a wonderland of free attractions. Your mechanical shark, axe throwing, obstacle course, and Connect 4 Basketball brought joy to hundreds of kids all weekend long. Both of you prove that being a major sponsor means investing in smiles and supporting our community for generations.
This festival's success rests on many shoulders. To our other business sponsors including, but not limited to - Grant Insurance, Okuley’s Pharmacy: Continental, OH, S & S Sanitation, JPS Oil & Propane, Verhoff Machine & Welding, Erhart-Stechschulte Insurance, Helena Continental for sharing your parking lot, K&L Ready Mix, Kalida Manufacturing, Inc., The Fort Jennings State Bank, and MetaLINK Technologies - your support transforms our vision into reality. Each of you chose community over profit, and we noticed.
Special recognition goes to those who went above and beyond expectations. The Ottawa-Glandorf Jaycees crossed town lines to help us set up and loan equipment, showing true regional community spirit. Powell Creek Services' Cody Donaldson and Huey's Ice Cream created pure magic for our children with those parachuting prizes. Our emergency services - fire, EMS and police departments - kept us safe while sharing their facilities, and our town council helped make it all possible by cutting through every piece of red tape. Ottoville Black Angus On Main Bar & Grill provided those perfect BBQ chickens for Continental Senior Connections' sold-out fundraiser.
Every food vendor fed both bodies and souls this weekend. Band Boosters' lemonade shake-ups funded instruments and uniforms. Christ United Methodist Women's sloppy joes and hot dogs supported ministry. Continental Drama Department's walking tacos and freeze-dried candy backed theater dreams. Continental Senior Connections' Smiley Meals kept kids happy while their BBQ chicken fundraiser - all 225 dinners sold - built programs for our elders. Continental Lions Club and American Legion Riders - Post 541 kept everyone satisfied with their perfectly grilled burgers and bratwursts. Parents of Pirates POP's Kids Singo event brought families together with laughter and music. Continental Volunteer Fire Department's fresh-cut french fries, Packs for Pirates' fry pies, LifeWise Academy-Continental's Krispy Kremes and corn pit - every single purchase was an investment in Continental's future.
Our food trucks brought a new variety of quality cuisine to Main Street. Wanna Make ‘Er Loaded (Toledo's best food truck nominee), Babby’s Baked Taters from Findlay, PAVIS SUBS and Beyond LLC from Ottawa, Grandma Moses' Handmade Ice Cream, The Chill Wagon - you made our festival a true destination for food lovers across the region.
The music brought us together in ways only music can. Deep Cuts packed the tent Friday night with their 90s and 2000s hits that had everyone singing along while raising money for Packs for Pirates. Saw Crush wrapped up Saturday with country music that kept boots stomping and the dance floor full until the very last song. Both nights, the tent was electric with Continental's energy.
Finally, to every volunteer who worked behind the scenes - you who cleaned up messes nobody else saw, counted money, judged contests, served drinks, sold and collected tickets, organized and marshaled the parade, cleaned tables and chairs, picked up trash, ran for supplies when ice and other supplies got low, and everyone who smiled through exhaustion - you ARE the festival. To every vendor who traveled here, Taylor Ordway who taught us line dancing, the sound technicians who made everyone sound like stars, our karaoke host who made fifteen contestants feel like professionals, our trivia host who kept Saturday night lively with brain games and laughter, every parade participant, and every single person who attended - your participation, enthusiasm, and spirit make Continental special.
Together, we have once again proven that Continental doesn't just host a festival - we become one. This weekend belonged to all of us. Every smile shared, every hand shaken, every cheer given - that's Continental's true currency. We invested in each other, and the returns are priceless.
With gratitude and hometown pride,
The Continental Fall Festival Committee
