There’s something hauntingly beautiful about fire country. The way Mother Nature reminds us that for all she gives us, she can take it away just as quickly. A reminder to man that no matter how much money or power mankind’s greed demands, nothing trumps the brute force and unrelenting nature of Mother Earth when she has been scorned. With every natural disaster she reminds us that we are but a fleeting moment in her history. She can protect us, or she can end us. An ongoing battle between her patience and man’s ego; a call to action, a persistent reminder that regardless what we think, in the end, Mother Nature will reign supreme. It’s up to us whether we learn to live along side her, or whether we become just another fossil in the sedimentary pages of earth’s history.

It’s so rare to see waves in the Keys, so we went for a drive to Key West after work yesterday to chase a little weather. So far, aside from a few downed trees in the yard, we have fared well! Fingers crossed there’s no backflow flooding from the Gulf as the storm continues eastward & thoughts to all who were in Milton’s direct path 🖤

It’s always amazing to me that choice humans have successfully villainized one plant, a literal W**D if you will, that has been used by societies around the world for MILLENNIA for everything from medicinal treatments to textile production, all because those in power were so easily bought out and paid off by bigger, pushier industries (oil, cotton, etc).
While the US government’s recent decision to reschedule isn’t the decision to DESCHEDULE all together that many of us had hoped for, I do hope it’s a sign that we’re taking steps in the right direction.
Whether you t**e or not, I hope you can appreciate the beauty of this photo series and perhaps it inspires you to do a bit of your own research.
Gotta give a little thanks to and the “Ultimate Stoner Dream Job” call as well, as I probably never would have rediscovered these photos if I hadn’t been going back through my photo archives to add to my photography portfolio. 📸
