This is real folks. With all the increases in food prices and availability, new legislation in the State, and the general economic uncertainty that we are all experiencing, I am afraid we will be seeing more small, local food establishments shuttering just within the next few months.
Our operations here and in our Cooking Connection coffeeshop are not exempt from all of this. The 10 little businesses incubating and operating in here are still hoping they can ride the very slow sales out. Our 18 Special Needs workers are hoping that we can keep busy enough to justify their remaining here. We have had to decline some of the many requests we get regularly for contributions and support of important local events and fundraisers - we just cannot do them all now as some of us are struggling just to remain open. We have already greatly reduced our operating hours in the coffeeshop in an effort to minimize the cost of labor to remain open for a $5 day!
We know that everyone is making some difficult decisions for when and how often they can spend their increasingly tight dollars out to eat. We just want to remind you that we're here, we are ready to serve you and hope that the community will choose to spend some of their time and money with us!
Thank you so much for the support you have given us over the past 10 years.

A flurry of restaurant closures in Grand Rapids has highlighted the struggles facing the hospitality sector, from increased costs to shifting consumer habits.
Since January, at least eight Grand Rapids area restaurants and breweries have permanently closed, including Rockwell Republic, Creston Brewery, Beacon Corner Bar and GRNoir Wine & Jazz.
In an industry known for tight margins, restaurant closings arenβt rare. But the sheer number of spots that have closed in the first two months of the year has drawn lots of attention.
