The RSO is pleased to introduce our new principal flutist, Lexi Eubanks.

Lexi Eubanks is a Detroit-based flutist, teaching artist, chamber musician, and composer. She is passionate about new music, and has commissioned and premiered over 20 works including the world premieres of Juri Seo’s Birds, Bees, and Electric Fish, Jeremy Esquer’s Psilocybe Cubensis Op. 8, No. 1, Kyle Brown’s Fleeting…, Marc Perez’s Stages of Drowning, Jelani Surpris’ tap into/in too, and José Gurria-Cardenas’ Louis, Monkey & Friends. As a soloist, Lexi has performed with the Schwob Philharmonic Orchestra, in the Kaleidoscope Concert Series at Bill Heard Theatre, and in the Music Under the Dome Concert Series at the Coca-Cola Space and Science Center.

Lexi is a member of two nationally known chamber groups: FLYDLPHN (www.flydlphn.com) and Trío Líneas (linktr.ee/triolineas). With FLYDLPHN sextet, Alexis has commissioned and premiered over 15 pieces. The sextet has held residencies at Bowling Green State University and Washtenaw Community College, with an upcoming residency at the University of Florida in spring of 2026. Her trio, Trío Líneas, has performed around the country, including Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, MI, Tenri Cultural Institute in Manhattan, New York, Prairiewood Retreat in Manhattan, Kansas, and the Butler School of Music in Austin, Texas. Trío Líneas was one of the 10 groups chosen to compete in the 2025 Coltman Competition.

As an educator, Lexi has held workshops at Oakland University, the Atlanta Flute Fair, and the 2024 SEMFA Flute Festival. Her research on memorization is published in the Atlanta Flute Club Newsletter, and her thesis, A Comparative Study of Toru Takemitsu’s Toward the Sea and Kazuo Fukushima’s Mei, is published by CSU ePress. Lexi has a private studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan of 9 students. She is an Artist-in-Residence at Flute Specialists and works with the “Our Own Thing Chorale and Instructional Program”.

In 2024, Lexi received her Master's of Music in Flute Performance and Master's of Music in Chamber Music at the University of Michigan, where she studied with flutist Amy Porter. In 2022, Lexi graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, where she studied with Andreé Martin. She was a performance fellow at the 2023 Nief Norf Festival and has performed in masterclasses for Alexa Still, Michael Hasel, Tara Helen O'Connor, Kieth Underwood, and Jennifer Grim.
