Are you having Covenant Confusion? We want to clear up some common misconceptions about the covenant process over the next few weeks. Today’s topic: Covenant Violations.
Residents who have a complaint regarding property maintenance, concerns about residential exterior changes, and other issues pertaining to covenant enforcement, are welcome to submit a covenant complaint form (found on oaklandmills.org under the Covenants tab).
Here are some common myths and truths about the property concerns (violations) process:
❌Myth: OMCA goes out looking for violations!
✔️Truth: Our system is complaint driven, meaning we DO NOT go out searching for violations. In addition, you must include the exact property address and the specific violation concern(s).
❌Myth: If I submit a complaint my personal information will be shared.
✔️Truth: Violations can be (and most are) filed anonymously. And unless a complainant specifically asks us to share their information we cannot and will not share that information.
Sometimes there are issues that don’t fall under our purview. Here’s a list of common issues and who may be able help with them:
🚚Cars, Trailers, Boats, Buses, Commercial Vehicles parked on the street in any condition: contact the Howard County Police Department non-emergency line and/or the Howard County Department of Planning and Zoning.
🐕Pet-related concerns (dogs off leash, failure to pick-up p**p, noise, etc.): Howard County Animal Control.
🅿️Parking issues in townhouse/condo communities: contact the HOA responsible for that specific community.
🔥Firepit and/or grill use: Howard County Fire Marshall.
Did you know we have a Community Resource Officer? He can help with non-emergency questions directly related to the Oakland Mills Community. Call the Community Outreach number for more info: 410-313-2207.
