The Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College (HCC) is home to three performance venues, two art galleries, two dance studios, and multiple instructional facilities for Howard Community College's Arts and Humanities programs. age (outdoor venue). Talkin Family Art Gallery regularly showcase the work of regionally and nationally recognized artists as well as the work of HCC students. Each season of Horowitz Center programming features performances and events produced by Rep Stage, HCC Theatre, HCC Dance, HCC Music Concerts, and HCC Film. Presentations by partner arts and culture organizations further enrich each season of experiences for students and community patrons.

Enjoy a truly special afternoon of music featuring pianists Wei-Der Huang and I-Wen Tseng in performances of two masterworks: Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C Major, K. 467, and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in C Minor, Op. 37. Under the baton of Ronald Mutchnik, these beloved concertos will come to life alongside a full orchestra comprised of the exceptional musicians of Columbia, Maryland.

The program also includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 36, a vibrant and transitional work that bridges the elegance of the classical era with the bold, innovative spirit that would define his later symphonies.

The exhibit, Visual Poetry: the work of Wonsook Kim, is currently on display in The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery at Howard Community College. Step into the dreamlike world of Wonsook Kim, where poetic paintings, etchings, and sculptures invite you to pause, reflect, and rediscover beauty in the unseen.

Exhibit Dates: Monday, August 25 through Sunday, October 12
Gallery Hours: Open Daily 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Artist Bio
Wonsook Kim was born in Busan, Korea in 1953 and came to the United States in 1972. She is renowned for her authentic, exuberant narratives in paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, multimedia and installations, which have been shown around the world by museums and galleries since 1985. Her copious, engaging, contemporary works result from her lifetime of experiences in Korea and the United States.

Flashback Friday - Thank you to everyone who made last Saturday's reception so special! Celebrating Wonsook Kim's exhibition "Visual Poetry" was the perfect way to kick off the Horowitz Center's 20th Season. The evening featured a thoughtfully curated menu by HCC’s culinary program and a live quartet led by HCC music alumnus and faculty member, Steven Caballero. We were honored to receive a proclamation from County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball; September 13, 2025 will forever be known as Horowitz Center Day in Howard County!

This afternoon and evening, Howard Community College will be presenting The Bauder Lecture, featuring Safia Elhillo.

Safia Elhillo, distinguished, bestselling author of Bright Red Fruit, will deliver the keynote at the 5th annual Bauder Lecture. Following her address, Elhillo will be joined by celeste doaks—editor, journalist, and author of Cornrows and Cornfields—for an in-depth conversation. A book signing will follow the lecture in the lobby of the Horowitz Center.

Continuing the tradition that CFS created through more than 50 years of film showings in Howard County, the Horowitz Center is proud to offer 10 weekends of film in Smith Theatre for one low subscription price of $35. Our Story

The Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center is home to three performance venues, two art galleries, two dance studios and multiple instructional facilities for HCC's Arts and Humanities programs. Performance venues include the Horowitz Center Studio Theatre with seating up to 150, the 119 seat Monteabaro Recital Hall and Smith Theatre, which features comfortable seats accommodating up to 424 guests.
