Mindset Monday

Before you defend the story, check the facts.

Sometimes the conflict isn't in what was said.
It's in the story we added to it.

Someone says something.
We interpret it.
We attach meaning based on our experiences, assumptions, fears, or expectations.

And before we know it, we're responding to what we think they meant instead of what they actually said.

"I can't make it tonight" becomes "They don't care about me."
"Can we talk about this?" becomes "I'm in trouble."

What was said.
What I made it mean.
That space between the two can change a relationship.

The meaning we assign becomes a thought.
That thought can become a belief.
That belief creates an emotion.
And then we respond from that emotion.
All from a story that may not even be true.

Interpretation becomes dangerous when we stop treating it like an interpretation and start treating it like a fact.

Healthy communication requires us to slow down and ask:

"Is that what they actually said, or is that the story I created around what they said?"

There might be a whole different conversation there.

Tickets are LIVE for Envision 2027! ✨

If you've been feeling like you need a pause, a reset, or simply some intentional time to think about what's next, this day is for you.

On January 8, Krista, Marie, and I are bringing the Envision Retreat back to the Lake of the Ozarks for our 5th retreat.

We'll spend the day reflecting, vision casting, talking about change and pivoting, getting creative, setting goals, and figuring out what comes next.

And yes, there will be plenty of time to slow down, connect, and enjoy the lake house, too. 🤍
