Sometimes, when I can’t find just what I need, I skip it and make it work anyway. In this case, I totally skipped the greenery altogether because none of the options felt right.

It’s so important to branch out from your standard or any set “rules“ and find out for yourself what works. I think that’s how you truly establish your own unique style.

You can build an amazing color palette simply by studying one flower you know you want to use. Most flowers actually contain more than one color if you look close enough. Flowers are incredible that way.

So if you find yourself stuck standing in front of buckets of gorgeous flowers without any idea of where to start, try this tip and let me know how it works. I’d love to see what y’all are creating with your grocery store flowers.

I’m not saying this is the right way, this is just the way I do it.

I usually start building my arrangements with my focal flowers first. A bit unconventional, but this is what works best for me. It allows me to put them exactly where I want them before any valuable real estate is taken up by less important blooms or foliage.

Any flower that has lots of small side stems is a great way to create a base for keeping flowers in the right place. Think hydrangea, spray mums, asters, yarrow, etc. Let me know if you use this trick and how it works out!

I literally use this plant from June through October. And it is so incredibly easy to grow. You have to do absolutely nothing to keep it alive. Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you exactly how I use it in my arrangements.
