Birth Doula & Photographer

Birth & womanhood documented through photography, videography, and storytelling. My name is Danielle and I’m a wife, mother of two, and photographer located in the Mid-Missouri area that specializes in Birth Photography/Videography, Fresh 48 sessions and capturing babies and families in a lifestyle, natu

ral environment. I am all about those precious little details from the soft hair on your little one’s head down to their tiny little toes. I began my journey with Birth Photography almost 6 years ago and haven’t stopped since. I have photographed over 150 births now and it is not only my passion but I am a strong advocate for all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum related. I love documenting one of the most life changing times in your life and I will tell you this, its something you will cherish forever and will want to look back on over and over again. I’m dedicated to my birth work and I go on-call with my clients 24/7 the weeks surrounding their due date. I will support you with your wants, needs and fully capture what you would like, being very modest to completely detailed. I capture your unique story, and when you are at home cuddling on that sweet little one of yours looking at those images, you will see so much beauty and see a YOU you've never seen before. A beautiful, powerful, transformed mother in the throes of the most intense pain and love you will ever feel.

I am endlessly drawn to the way women transform. Not just in birth, but in every season of becoming. Pregnancy is one of those rare moments where creation is visible, written across the body for all to see. When I captured this image, I had her hold this pose for a moment. The dress perfectly embraced her like one of those Greek Venus statues. Bradleigh David You are stunning my dear!

I’m sharing this because context has been missing for some time.

I founded The Birthkeeper, LLC in 2019 and have held this name in my professional work ever since. The term “Birthkeeper” is not something that appeared recently, it carries historical roots within birth work and was used by Jeannine Parvati Baker to describe those who support birth in a grounded, spiritual, embodied way.

After my work gained visibility online by going viral, the term began circulating more widely and was used in ways I was not involved in or informed about. Over time, its meaning shifted significantly in public discourse, and I have watched that unfold with deep frustration and disappointment.

When major media coverage followed, the representation of the term and its origins felt disconnected from both its history and my lived experience holding this name in practice.

I now move forward publicly under Her Origin. My LLC still holds The Birthkeeper name in the state of Missouri.

I’m not sharing this to debate ownership of language, but because language matters. Origins matter. And when terms move through public space, the people who carried them with intention deserve to be part of that context.

My hope is still simple, that “Birthkeeper” can be understood, and eventually returned, to its original depth, integrity, and meaning.

Sometimes the most meaningful part of this work isn’t the photograph itself, it’s what happens when a mother sees herself in it. After receiving these images, this mother shared these words with me.

“Why do I feel the need to preface these photos by saying my belly is in them—as if it’s something that needs explaining?

Why is there such a strong pull to return to a pre-pregnancy body?

I’m sad when it’s time to pack away a newborn sleeper that all of my babies once wore. I want to hold onto every tiny reminder of those early days. Yet somehow I’m quick to criticize the very body that carried them.

We cherish the memories of pregnancy and new motherhood, but often struggle to embrace the physical evidence of what our bodies accomplished.

For the past year, my body has sustained a life.

First from a cellular level within the womb, adapting and changing month after month. Then postpartum, continuing to nourish and sustain that same life outside of it.

I am 41 years old. I have carried and delivered five babies. And for the past year, this body has supported my youngest son from his very first cells into the beautiful, chubby-cheeked, bald-headed four-month-old he is today.

That’s an extraordinary amount of change. An extraordinary amount of work.

So why is my first instinct to pull my stomach into my waistband or wish I looked thinner in photographs?

It feels unfair.

I wish my mind were better trained to see myself with the same grace, admiration, and unconditional love that I so easily give my children.

Thank you, Danielle, for capturing this season of my life and helping me see myself more clearly. For reminding me that beauty and strength can exist in the very same body.”

Every year, I host a complimentary gathering in honor of World Breastfeeding Week, and this year we’ll be celebrating a little earlier than usual.

In fact, I have two events planned for July 26th in Columbia, Missouri, created to bring mothers together for connection, encouragement, and community.

More details and registration information will be announced soon. For now, save a little space on your calendar and keep an eye out.

Behind every birth story is a transformation not only for the mother, but for the partner and family too.

This episode of The Rewilding Womb we sat down with past clients of mine and dive into birth, support, vulnerability, and the realities of postpartum that deserve more honest conversation.

These are the moments I live to document.
Real.
Raw.
Human.

One of my favorite things to document is seeing a mother fully bring her own baby into her arms. 🤍

The gentleness in this moment was everything. No rushing, no aggressive handling, just soft guidance, instinct, and a mother reaching down to meet her baby for the very first time.

These are the moments that matter. The moments that deserve to be remembered exactly as they happened. Birth is powerful, but it can also be calm, connected, and deeply tender.

Being able to preserve this for families is something I’ll never take for granted.

Anyone else feeling this shift lately?
Craving slower living, deeper connection, and creating from the heart instead of for algorithms? ✨

I’m grateful for every person this space has connected me to over the years, but I think many of us are waking up to how much constant consumption pulls us away from real life.

Maybe art was never meant to be rushed. 🤍

In a world becoming more filtered, curated, and AI generated by the day, birth videography preserves something untouched. Truth.

The trembling hands. The deep breaths. The tears in a partner’s eyes. The sound of a first cry. The exact moment two people become parents and a baby is welcomed earthside.

These are the moments that cannot be manufactured. They are raw, sacred, emotional, imperfect, and profoundly human.

Birth changes everyone in the room. It’s a transformation unfolding in real time, and documenting that journey is more than creating a video, it’s preserving legacy, connection, and the authentic story of how your family began.

AI may recreate images, voices, and stories… but it will never replicate the energy, emotion, and soul of real human connection in the moment you meet your baby. That is something meant to be felt, witnessed, and remembered forever. ✨

I captured something so fascinating during a labor recently and had to share it.

See that movement happening in the lower back? That area is called the Rhombus of Michaelis, and during labor, it actually shifts and opens as baby moves down.

Which means all that swaying, rocking, leaning forward, getting on hands and knees? The body isn’t just “coping” with contractions… it’s instinctively creating more space for baby.

Birth is wild in the most incredible way.

One of my favorite things about documenting labor is watching the body know exactly what to do before anyone even says a word. The movement, the sounds, the positions people naturally go into… there is so much wisdom in it.

This is why movement in labor matters so much. Sometimes the best thing you can do is let the body lead.

Did you already know about the Rhombus of Michaelis or is this new to you?
