In the past few weeks I have heard a lot of memories that people have shared with us on our original building and location downtown Columbia City. I hope to never experience a tragedy like this and go through everything Randy did to build a new building. -Brett

31 years ago, residents of Columbia City and the surrounding communities were waking up to the news that our original funeral home on Van Buren Street had caught fire and burnt down over the night on March 17, 1983. The photo is from that location and was taken in July of 1976. After the fire, Randy Grimes started working on plans to build a new modern funeral home at the location where we are at today at 600 Countryside Drive. We would like to thank everyone for supporting our business for the past 99 years!

This morning from 9-11am is our 30th annual ornament pass out. Our Holiday Memorial Service will be uploaded around 1pm today.

11/27/2021

Our ornaments finally arrived for our 30th annual Holiday Memorial Service! Like last year, the service will be virtual again beginning at 1pm Saturday, December 4, 2021 and we will pass out ornaments under the funeral home’s portico from 9-11am or until we run out. Also a reminder that there will only be one ornament per individual in the vehicle because of our supply.

Happy Thanksgiving and wishing a safe travel to those on the move today.

We would like to thank all Veterans who have served our great country and to thank their families as well. Having a father who served 40 years with the Air Force, I always dreaded when he would leave for a tour and have to go over seas.

It’s hard to imagine it’s been 20 years since the 9-11 attack that rocked our country. I can remember it like yesterday as I heard the news from a tv playing between our two anatomy classrooms. I first thought it was a small plane and since I grew up in aviation I didn’t think much of it. Then as we went to take a break for our anatomy class, the situation became more clear and then as we all watched the tv in shock, the second plane hit the towers. I knew this would effect my family since my dad had a full time career with the Air Force. I’m sure most you remember that day. Where or what were you doing when you heard the news?

With the weather being so hot outside, it’s hard to believe that cold weather is around the corner. It won’t be long before we are sending our kids to school with their coats.
We have begun our annual coat drive and are collecting kids winter coats for the Columbia City Salvation Army. You can drop them off at our Community Room entrance door by the flag pole and monument display, Monday-Thursday between the hours of 9AM & 3PM. Thank you.

We have had a few people call us in the last week that they are having trouble pulling up our website. Some are from their computer but can open it from their cell phone and others are having difficulty if they are connected on WiFi or their cell phone provider. The web host has been working on updating this but if the website does not open for you, please email [email protected] so I can make contact with you in the next few days.

Some examples were one couple could not open our website from their cell phone with AT&T but the other one could who had Verizon. Another person they were with had AT&T and our website pulled right up. Another person had Mediacom and another Frontier while others have had no problem.

Thank you and have a great week.

Just a reminder that everyone is welcome to use DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home’s parking lot to watch the Columbia City fireworks tonight. We just ask that you do not bring your own fireworks for everyone’s safety. We hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

We have taken some phone calls from families about funeral pre arrangements with the news of a funeral home in another community closing. This is very sad news to hear of a family owned funeral home closing but just know to anyone who has done any type of funding with advance funeral planning that those funds do not belong to the funeral home. The funds are still part of one’s financial portfolio like other investments and those pre arrangements can be switched to any funeral home ahead of time or even at the time of a death. If you have any questions or want any educational material, please give Kate, Randy or myself a call.

Thank you,
Brett Gerber

After last spring of the kids being at home on a full time e-Learning, I think a lot of us appreciate the schools more now than before. With Teacher Appreciation week, we say thank you to the staff at Averi’s school with lunch from Subway. Also thank you all who work for any school system for what you do.

Finally our first “warm” day of the year. It’s a tease of spring but definitely welcomed. Our kids enjoyed a ride on the Columbia City trail and starting their first bonfire of 2021. We hope you all enjoyed the weather with your family. How did you enjoy the weather today?

For 29 years we have hosted an annual holiday memorial service. Due to concerns and restrictions with Covid 19, this year we will be doing a VIRTUAL Holiday Memorial Service at 1pm on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 through Facebook on DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home & DeMoney Grimes Live.

If you would like to participate at the end of Sharon’s message of hope, have a candle ready to light or turn on in remembrance of your loved one.

That morning STARTING at 10 a.m., we will begin handing out Ornaments under the funeral home portico to those who stop by at the funeral home. We will have directional signs in the parking lot.

With the limited quantity of ornaments that was available to us, you MUST be present to receive one and it’s a first come, first serve basis and we will end after we have passed them all out or at Noon.

Big thank you to The Compassionate Friends group at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home for making Christmas Cards to put in our “letters to grandma” box!
Just wanted to say thank you again for the beautiful Holiday Memorial Service yesterday. Our community is so fortunate to have such caring people as yourselves. It was a wonderful service and meant so much to hear my son's name spoken.💕💔
Viewing for Mona Jean Workman will be 4p-8p on Tuesday and the funeral service will be at 10a Wednesday. Both will be at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home.

Thank you very much to DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home for collecting coats for us this year! They collected 214 coats, 53 pairs of gloves, 38 hats, and 14 scarves! This will be a big help to those in need! Remember, the coat give-a-way and Turkey sign-up will be Monday thru Wednesday November 13 - 15 10 am - 2 pm. We are so grateful for all we can do to help Whitley county!
With all our thoughts and prayers be with you and your family.
Thank You to all that helped with the Walk today ... it was my first year and I hope to be a regular every year ... we have lost so many loved ones and tomorrow marks 1yr i lost my Dad ... Thank You Again
Once again your staff took care of my family like we were your own. You have provided services to my family more times than I would like to admit in the past few years and every time we are highly satisfied. Pardon the frankness, but we're all adults so...Today I had to p*e before the burial for my aunt and I walked up to Randy and Brett and told them and they smiled, unphased by my candidness and said "There's trees over there, we'll wait for you." Randy even washed my cousin's car. I ate dinner at the funeral home last night and it didn't even feel that weird because it's DeMoney. Sharon was great today too, also unphased by the revelation that I would be using colorful language during my sp*ech for my aunt. I honestly cannot say enough good things about your entire staff. We sincerely thank you.
Have you ever thought about why people who earn online, earn more? I was curious, so I decided to try my hand at this kind of earnings. I chose to earn money from the broker expertoption.com and I liked it.
