Last call for flowers!

The dahlia season is winding down, and within the next couple of weeks, the garden will be calling it quits for the year. Until then, I’ll be soaking up every last bloom and making bouquets while I still can.

If you’ve been wanting flowers, now’s your chance before the garden goes into hibernation for the winter.

I was so incredibly honored to be able to supply some of my dahlias for Nicole and Matt’s big day 🥹

Make sure to check out and follow Blooming On Chestnut’s page! Her bouquets and creations are beautiful!

Soaking up every bit of dahlia season I can, because that first frost is getting closer and I’m not ready to talk about it.

This garden really is my little slice of paradise. I’ll be out here until Mother Nature tells me otherwise.

✨ This week’s dahlia lineup is looking real good… and I may have picked a few new favorites. 😅

🌸 Irish D. Porter – The tiniest little button pom and possibly the cutest dahlia I’ve ever grown. I’m absolutely obsessed.

❤️ Sandra’s Tiffany – A rich, velvety deep red formal decorative. She’s in her second season here and just keeps getting better.

💜 Ryan C – A longtime favorite (3 years and counting). Raspberry-purple with the occasional white-tipped petals… always a stunner.

🧡 Totally Tangerine – My first anemone-style dahlia! The stems haven’t won me over yet, but those blooms sure have.

💖 Raz Ma Taz – Quickly climbing the ranks. Raspberry petals with golden-yellow accents at the base make this one glow.

🤍❤️ Edinburgh – New this year and I am loving the dramatic bicolor contrast.

🍦 Robann Creamsicle – Woah there, Nelly… I am IN LOVE. That’s it. That’s the review.

💙 Levi’s Blue Smoke – The dahlia everyone seems to be chasing. I splurged and paid $30 for this tuber at a flower show this spring. 😅 She’s pretty, but she’s still got a little convincing to do before I understand the hype.

💛 Vista Lindsey – Bright yellow, laciniated, 4–6” blooms… an absolute showstopper.

🧡 Symphony – Perfect little orange-red globes that never disappoint.

🍑 L.A.T.E. – Another new favorite. Peachy, melon-ball blooms that are impossible not to love.

🌷 Amelia Jay – She’s giving “she’s that girl” energy… and honestly, she’s earned it.

Every week brings new favorites, surprise blooms, and at least one flower that makes me stop in my tracks. Which one are you adding to your wishlist? 👇

Flower haul 😍 and my first dahlia of the season; Levi’s Blue Smoke.

The warmer weather changes the color of the petals. Typically Levi’s Blue Smoke has a darker raspberry pink center, but with this crazy heat, it’s a softer pink.

Still gorgeous nonetheless.

Nobody sees this part.

The tiny seed.
The waiting.
The wondering if anything will grow.
The early mornings.
The failures.
The storms.
The starting over.

Then one day… you walk through a field that used to fit in the palm of your hand.

Color is finally starting to arrive at Northern Loon Blooms, and it’s hard not to get excited walking through the garden each day. 🌸✨ The column stock, sweet peas, snapdragons, celosia, cosmos, and so many others are beginning to show off, and after months of planning, planting, and waiting, it’s incredibly rewarding to see it all coming to life.

At the same time, flower farming is a constant lesson in humility. Even in my fourth year, I’m still learning. I spent the last week telling myself I needed to finish staking the dahlias, and then Mother Nature reminded me why that matters. Two strong storms rolled through, and I lost four dahlias when they snapped at the base of their stalks.

It’s disappointing, especially when you’ve poured so much time into every plant, but that’s part of growing flowers. Every season teaches something new, and every mistake becomes experience for the next one.

For now, I’m choosing to focus on the blooms, the progress, and all the color that’s still to come. 💐
