Does every backyard wedding need a tent?

Not necessarily.

Before deciding between a tented or open-air reception, we look at three things:

• The property — its layout, architecture, views, and how guests will move through the space
• The weather — heat, wind, rain, and how much protection the event may require
• The overall aesthetic — whether the design benefits from added structure or from keeping the backyard open

For this wedding, we kept the reception open-air and created the structure through trusses, chandeliers, intentional lighting, and a white dance floor.

The backyard remained part of the experience instead of something we needed to cover.

The goal isn’t to start with a tent.
It’s to start with the property and design from there.
