July flowers have that perfect bitty mix. Many annual flowers come into their first flush. When folks ask for “wildflowers” they often mean mixing annuals in that casually deliberate way that July does on its own.

There are fewer big bodacious focal flowers. My favorite trick is actually to dry store peonies for July weddings. When harvested at the right stage, I can easily keep peonies in my cooler for a month.

June is a unique flower month within our short growing season in Vermont. Many blooms are only available in passing; maybe a week or two if you’re lucky. We can squeeze in some of the best late Spring perennials and shrubs with early Summer annuals — a combo that is certain to be magic✨

It’s tax season, and I have a spreadsheet like Charlie Day’s conspiracy board. I’m looking back at 2025 and realizing that actually…many things in business went better than ever before. I worked fewer hours in 2025…and therefore felt less burn out at the end of the season. I feel more confident than ever in my artistic vision thanks to the trust of some really cool clients. And it was all managed during a kitchen reno which is its own little miracle.

I’m most proud though of how much my work keeps dollars in our local economy. (See slide 11 for just one line item in my COGS). Truly 100% local flowers always with only the tiniest exceptions.

For my fellow florists and farmers, I also wanted to share what flowers I gravitated most to or folks requested this year. Each year and each season has its trends. Looking forward to new ones while maintaining the careful balance I seem to have finally found. Year 6 of full time self employment here I come.

PS, if any fellow pros would like to talk biz, I’m an open book. I find data so interesting (and there’s so much more!) but like…this is instagram so let’s meet in real life first!

That feeling of handing you the bouquet,

Seeing your first reaction to flowers,

Hearing guests’ feedback,

and Standing back to take it all in…

after a year of planning, a 60 hour week of creating, and a day of hustling…there’s really nothing like it. And that feeling is my why for doing this work.

So grateful for good clients like Maeve & Henry, professional venues like the Inn at the Round Barn, and artistic photographers like Parker’s Pictures.

One month ago in August.

The category is COLOR.

What makes a color palette sing rather than fall flat? There’s surely a formula but for me it’s mostly intuitive. Deciding between mostly warm or cool undertones is usually the first step. And then I consider saturation, mostly brights or pastels or some combo of the two. Then I’m factoring in which colors I’d like for the focal flowers versus line and filler flowers. And finally, do I have enough bridge colors to span difference. Or at least something like that is happening in my brain but it’s never that cut and dry.

One thing I’m sure of, lots of you are asking for bold bright colors in a new way and I’m here for it.

Flowers from my little patch, , and for a couple bright weddings these past two weekends. 100% Vermont Grown, always.

June flowers against a new backdrop—the concrete floor of my studio—patina created by four years of carelessly grinding stems and leaves into its hard surface.

Something here about finding beauty even in the things that wear you down?
