Sometimes I hear these voices in my head. I think it’s the marketing Gods telling me, “a A Brand voice doesnt go silent. They remain consistent and appealing. And Rachel, you’ve been slackin’”.

And I say in response, “IT’S SUMMER AND I’M JUST A GIRL”.

Forreal though, the summer and all of the travel I’ve been doing has zapped my consistency on marketing and advertising, especially sharing what I’m up to on Instagram.

Whoopsie!

I’m still here though, and still trucking through the season with fall weddings on the horizon.

We’re gearing up for one our busiest fall seasons ever, and I’m so excited to bring on some freelance designers to help flower for you!

The farm is farming, the flowers are flowering, and I’m doing my darndest to keep it consistent for ya!

From the ceremony to the reception, we're a huge advocate for repurposing florals 🙌🏼 it’s the best way to maximize your budget while creating still creating major visual impact.

Most of the coordinators we work with will happily move mechanics post-ceremony - it’s built into their contract terms and it’s a blessing for us florists.

We work so incredibly hard with clients and with venue and coordinator staff, to ensure your floral vision is executed successfully on your wedding day!

I’m writing this while on the way to the Portland Flower Market, and I’m reflecting on the evolution of the farm over the past year or so…

When I started farming full time and pouring my heart, devotion, time, and so much more into this business, one of my main goals was to create agricultural jobs for folks.

Enter, Anika.

It was kindof serendipitous how things worked out. Originally, I offered volunteer work. My friend Kevin told me to reach out to his friend (now partner) Anika. I got really busy and just hadn’t reached out. Then, I posted a harvesting job and Kevin told me I really should reach out. That wouldn’t regret it. So I did!

The job description of harvesting hand quickly evolved to so much more: prepping beds, planting, researching and starting our own composting program, IPM, web development and copywriting, brand establishment and marketing, PR and product development, and so so much more.

Anika has been one of the greatest assets to the farm, and now one of my greatest friends.

One post can’t possibly express the gratitude and appreciation I hold for this person. She’s helped me reach farther, dream bigger, and look at things through a different lense.

And while I’m sad she’s departing from the farm to follow her passions and explore life abroad in Portugal and beyond, I am so excited for her to start this journey, and will leave the door open for her if she wanders back to my little farm that’s tucked away in the mountains, one day.

My favorite wedding clients are the ones that entrust me with creative freedom. Liz and Cyd did just that for their wedding celebration earlier this month.

July weather is predictably unpredictable. An outdoor ceremony was the original plan, with a backup rain plan of hosting the ceremony inside. And sure enough, as soon as I pulled away from the venue the sky opened up.

Despite the last minute change of plans, the ceremony went off without a hitch according to Liz and Cyd, where the most memorable lesson from the day was that their relationship and support group would weather any storm.

I love the couples I get to work with, and I love being able to contribute to these lifelong memories and milestones.

First big dahlia harvest of the year!

I culled my entire crop of dahlias 2 years ago because of disease, and were giving it a go once more!

There’s a new dahlia plot with four varieties - Sweet Nathalie, Peaches, Cornel Bronze, and Golden Scepter. They’re fantastic varieties for our wedding clients, and perfect for everyday enjoyment too.

Adding these to the wholesale portal for our florist friends, and a few farm bunches too; but not many.

Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky few to snag a bunch for local delivery or pickup 😉

Any feedback is good feedback.

We had our first pop-up you pic flowers event at the farm on Saturday.

When this idea was formulated, I was not sure if people would show up. I gauged my followers interest with a poll - what date would make sense, what format would lead to the most volume of sales, etc.

Mornings are cooler than midday, so would people come to a mid-day session? Would more people have shown up if I kept it open all day and people can come and go as they please? That didn’t make sense with the cost of labor to be there all day though. It’s a Saturday, so do people already have plans? What about rain? How should we advertise other than post on social media media, our newsletter, word of mouth, and putting flyers around town?

There are different variables that go in to the success of an event, and I tried to get a handle on all of them to create the best results - that result being a sold out event.

5 people came. Not the turnout I anticipated with the data I received from public interest. But this is good feedback for the business.

Running a business is like a puzzle that I enjoy solving. Doing events like this even for the first time gives me data to use and create adjustments for the future. It guides me to see what functions well and what isn’t aligned.

Thank you to those who came out to enjoy the farm, and thank you to those that expressed interest, gave verbal support, and helped spread the word.

We’ll be using this as good feedback, and will continue to explore how the farm can be a tool to continue to grow, create connection, celebrate milestones, generate profit, and provide beautiful flowers to people.

We’re prepping the farm for visitors! Our you-pick day is Saturday, June 7th. There are two time slots: one at 9 and one at 11:15; pick which works best for you and come enjoy this exclusive opportunity to check out the farm and take home some of your own cut flowers 🤗

Tickets are purchased online through our flower shop - the link is in our bio. We’ll give you the tools and the knowledge to be successful and have a great time. Two things:

1. I’m adding new varieties to the wholesale portal! Florists and designers please let me know if you’d like to be an approved buyer!

2. I’ll be adding farm bunches for the general public to buy as well!
