Half Past Dead is coming to the KAC!

You'll be seeing some awesome posters around town created by our very own Ruth Kennedy Grant!

Half Past Dead is a Grateful Dead tribute band based in Sherrill, New York, dedicated to capturing the spirit and improvisational magic of the Dead’s music. Blending faithful renditions with their own! A high-energy group known for their electrifying performances featuring experienced members of various New York bands/projects.

We are going to start showing off some of the awesome donations we have been receiving for our Annual Off the Wall event happening November 7th!

This first piece is by Polly Gott - High Peak Country, a beautiful watercolor that could be yours!

A $140 ticket equals one beautiful artwork to take home at the end of the night. Each ticket purchased guarantees you a piece of artwork to take "off the wall" when it is randomly called. Every ticket is a winner, as all tickets are drawn. And with more items than tickets sold, the person with the last ticket drawn of the evening gets a choice—and they receive a complimentary ticket to next year’s OFF THE WALL!

The Kirkland Art Center in Clinton presents a concert to celebrate Ginger
Parker’s legacy with one of her favorite bands — The Nields — this Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 pm.

Ginger Parker brought her passion for folk music to bear at the art center when she
launched the KAC Coffeehouse in the early 1980s, and she was the driving force behind the nationally recognized KAC music series for decades. The KAC is delighted to welcome back The Nields for this special evening.

School Lunch- Lisa Weinblatt

Opening THIS Saturday, October 17th, 1 - 4 p.m. Come see the work and meet the artist!

"SCHOOL LUNCH is a visual essay of contemporary student life in real educational settings. Current cross-cultural issues and their emotional attitudes are explored in the shared experience of school lunch. SCHOOL LUNCH is generated from direct observation, drawing on-site, in lunchrooms and campuses of High Schools and Colleges. Each individual in my paintings, drawn in the moment, in an actual person. My goal is to create humanistic awareness in a framework that is universally recognized. SCHOOL LUNCH underlines perceptions which affirm cultural identity, brings together ideas espousing contemporary social, gender and political concerns while encouraging a belief in the quality of human spirit."

Lisa DeLoria Weinblatt, a native New Yorker, received her M.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts, NYC. Weinblatt’s painting series SCHOOL LUNCH & A MAN/A WOMAN have been exhibited in over 40 solo exhibitions and over 200 group exhibits and was published in New American Paintings-2024.

"For more than six decades, the Kirkland Art Center has fulfilled its mission to educate children and adults, advocate for artists and the arts, and engage the community through live music, exhibitions, dance, and theater," said Anita Welych, KAC executive director. "Food, much like art, connects people in wonderful and delicious ways. This project allows us to expand our vision and transform the KAC into a space that welcomes everyone and celebrates the tremendous diversity of our region."

The Kirkland Art Center has started a fundraising campaign to expand and modernize its community arts and cultural spaces.

Today we are getting our LET'S GET COOKING! capital campaign underway in earnest. Our goal is to reach 1000 donors by December 31st and to raise funds needed to increase accessibility, build new facilities, and bring new programming with a new community/teaching kitchen.

We invite community members, local businesses, and regional supporters to partner with the KAC in our transformative project.
Through your GIFTS big or small, through two or three-year PLEDGES, and through NAMING OPPORTUNITIES we will reach our goal.

Funded in part by a substantial DRI award from New York State, the campaign is focused on securing the additional matching funds needed to support the project. With support from the DRI, community donations, anonymous pledges, and other grants to date, plans are being finalized by Chiang|O’Brien Architects to replace a deteriorated portion of the current building with a brand-new, fully accessible modern addition that will house dedicated studio spaces for pottery, children's arts, and mixed-media arts.
At the heart of the expansion is the state-of-the-art community and teaching kitchen. The commercial-grade facility is designed to serve the community in many ways though the culinary arts through cultural exploration, health education, entrepreneurship, and community connection.
Following on from MV Gives on September 18 and with other donations and small grants to date, this phase of the campaign sets an ambitious target: to build on over 90 MV Gives donors to reach 1,000 donors by December 31 to help bridge the funding gap and bring the vision to completion.
