The Farm at Walker Valley

Walker Valley Road is a very busy road these days - much busier than when our family started farming this land in 1938 long before all the development around us. Farm Safety Week is a good reminder that we are still an active farm with farm equipment on the road daily as the road travels through the middle of our farm. We realize it may be frustrating to be behind farm equipment for a short stretch. Please be patient, watch for farm equipment signs and remember the speed limit on this road so we can all arrive safely. 🚜🐄.

The main purpose of the Farm remains production agriculture 🐄🌽. While most all the hay we harvest is rolled into round bales, we still put up several small square bales annually. It just worked out that the timing of doing so was today in record heat 🥵. Fun farm fact: The average cow eats 26 to 30 pounds of hay per day.

We appreciate our long friendship with the “hay crew” that has been helping us for years. These are the days that we especially miss Eddie Wilson and Mack Shelton but the next generation is carrying the torch. Melanie Shelton Gilbert Blackwell Mary Buchanan

🌸🌺🌼 it is the sunset for our flower season and the flower stands and pick your own are now closed for the season. The end came sooner than we expected due to the extreme heat, humidity and rain which took a toll on the flowers. However, this has all caused our traditional farm crops such as hay and soybeans to be great crops!

Each season has been an opportunity to learn and to grow as we navigate a new project and to dream of new endeavors to come.

Thank you to each person who shared our posts, purchased flowers, came to the farm to cut your own or scheduled a photography season. We sincerely appreciate your support of our local farm and picking Tennessee Products.

🌼🌺🌸Cut your own flowers at Farm - we are trying something different this week on time and pricing. We will offer cut your own on the evening of Friday August 21st from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm. Prices will be $15 for all that will fit in a cup and $25 for all that fit in a bucket. No admission. Cash, credit card or Venmo.

🌸🌺DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT/HEAT INDEX FORECAST OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS, WE ARE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING FOR A FEW DAYS STOCKING FLOWERS ON THE FLOWER STNADS AS THEY WILL WILT QUICKLY IN THE HEAT .
