CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF DRIVING BUSINESS: To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re looking back at 10 cars throughout the year that have defined our success—starting with the 1977 320i. At an original price tag of $8,000, the 320i featured a 2.0L M10 four-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, and a distinctive driver-angled cockpit, offering classic BMW sporty handling with simple mechanics. In a 500-mile test drive from NYC to New Pittsburgh, Ohio, Car and Driver at the time called the vehicle “superb:” “It ran like a train...the absence of features like a radio or air-conditioning was never noticed.” It’s surprising how inconsequential such things become when you’re in a car that works.
