CALL FOR ARTISTS! Waterloo Arts will select 30-40 artists to create new work for our annual fluorescent art exhibit DayGlo 2025 PSYCHEDELIC.

Leaning into the history of DayGlo’s association with 1960s and 70s visual culture of rock and roll, the theme for 2026 is PSYCHEDELIC. Live music is an integral part of the Waterloo Arts District, with long-running venues like the Beachland Ballroom hosting bands from across the world. In the spirit of Waterloo Road’s association with live music, PSYCHEDELIC will focus on how DayGlo and fluorescent colors were used especially for band and music posters.

Participating artists will receive a supply of DayGlo paint, courtesy of the DayGlo Color Corp and the exhibit will be displayed in black light. Application deadline: Saturday, December 20th at midnight.

Cut, Tear, Layer: A Collage Workshop with Hadley K Conner

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the expressive potential of collage as both a personal and political medium. Using found imagery, we will cut, tear, and layer our way through guided conversations. We will explore how collage allows us to experiment with materiality and composition as a way to spark ideas and delve into themes such as memory, identity, and place.

All levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their own source materials, such as magazines, photos, letters, and fabric scraps, but a variety of collage materials will also be provided.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Paige L. Morris “Sad Little Problem”
THIS IS THE LAST WEEK OF THE SHOW!!! Don't miss your chance to see Paige's work. Waterloo Arts is OPEN for viewing on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays from 12-4pm. Stop by today!

Sad Little Problem reimagines everyday rituals and objects as sites of intimacy, satire, and resistance. Through glass sculptures, fountains, hydroponics, and assemblage, the work evokes the nostalgic absurdity of mall fountains while staging cycles of growth, decay, and repair. Drawing from personal experience, Morris reframes the everyday as a space for tenderness, grief, and reflection, insisting on resistance through care and reimagined systems of connection.

Paige L. Morris is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Philadelphia, PA. Building on her foundation in glass, her craft functions as a cathartic tool for questioning power and desire by disassembling and reassembling meaning within materials to create multidisciplinary installations. Morris holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BFA from Tyler School of Art + Architecture where she serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor.

We will be having an Artist Talk with Megan Dardis in the Waterloo Arts Cafe at 7:30pm.

Megan Dardis “Stay Composed”
Stay Composed is a presentation of abstract paintings by Megan Dardis. The work on view explores notions of female identity, motherhood, and self expression in opposition to societal norms and the expectations placed on women.

Megan Dardis is an abstract artist working in Cleveland, Ohio. In her highly abstract work emotions are transformed into pigment and gesture, capturing those in-between transient states of being.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Hadley K Conner

"Now Voyager" is a series of photographs and photo-based mixed media pieces that utilize travel as a metaphor for reflection, choice, change, transition and evolution. Autobiographical in some cases, the work echoes the sentiments of the many women in the artist’s life in various stages of their individual journeys.

In her mixed media work (as seen here), Conner combines gelatin silver prints with cyanotypes, acrylic paint, copper, gold and silver leaf, and encaustic. The surface of these collage-like constructions shines when the molten wax hits the light, revealing the layers upon layers of materials the artist used.

Hadley K Conner is a Cleveland-based artist, musician and educator. She holds a BFA from Cleveland Institute of Art and a MAAE from the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Working almost exclusively with film and traditional photographic materials, Hadley has been showing work both locally and regionally for over 35 years.
