💔 A Difficult Goodbye 💔

Today, I had to close the doors of SLOW… Or-On-The-Go™ Café — a dream I poured my heart and soul into. From the very start, opening came with delays and challenges far beyond my control, and those setbacks played a big part in where things stand today.

There were two incredible individuals who also poured their hearts, countless hours, and many late nights into this journey. I feel I’ve failed them — not because we didn’t give our all, but because circumstances were stronger than our will.

I often worked 14–16 hour days, and at times 24 to 36 hours straight without sleep — first while getting the café ready to open, and later toward the end, trying to keep it afloat. Still, I’m deeply proud of what we created — 99% five-star Google reviews, heartfelt connections, and a space that brought joy to so many.

My heart also goes out to my neighbor who is also closing both his wine taphouse and restaurant.

Although SLOW… Or-On-The-Go™ Café was short-lived, I’ll always carry it with pride and gratitude — because at least I tried. I don’t really see this as a failure, even though some days it feels like one.

What gives me strength is knowing that my mental-health foundations and businesses in South Africa are still flourishing after 34 years of dedication, compassion, and hard work. This café may have been a brief chapter, but it was written with passion, purpose, and love. 💚

🎶 We had such a great time at SLOW… Or On-The-Go™ Café today! Drew (aka Dr. Harmonica) filled the outside patio with fantastic music and energy while guests enjoyed their meals and the beautiful weather. As the snowbirds return and the season picks up, we even took a quick moment outside to laugh and sing a few notes with Drew — including a fun solo from our staff member, Mia. 💃🕺✨
One lovely couple celebrating their wedding anniversary enjoyed a dance or two, and we also had a joyful birthday in the mix. What a vibrant day at SLOW!
