Welcome back to Tech Talk Tuesday! This week, we're exploring the technical world of DMX control in theater lighting.

💡 Spotlight on DMX Control 💡

Ever wondered how we create those stunning lighting effects with perfect precision? It's all thanks to DMX control!

DMX, or Digital Multiplex, is the standard protocol for digital communication networks used in stage lighting and effects. With DMX control, we can manage hundreds of lighting fixtures from a single console. This allows us to adjust brightness, color, and movement with incredible accuracy.

Our lighting designers program complex sequences into the DMX controller, ensuring each light performs its part at the exact right moment. This technology enables us to create dynamic lighting designs that enhance the mood and storytelling of our performances.

DMX control is essential for coordinating everything from simple spotlights to intricate light shows. It’s the backbone of our lighting design, giving us the creative freedom to transform the stage and captivate our audience.

🎨 Take a break from the heat! Stop into The Clayton Center lobby and take in the cool artwork on display in our main lobby. The July Clayton Visual Arts exhibit - Veteran Artworks - features the mixed media creations of artists John Farr, David Lennon, Papajack Singles and Al White.

Clayton Visual Arts' members hung the exhibit on Monday. A Meet the Artists reception is scheduled for this Thursday, July 11, at 6pm. Plan to attend to immerse yourself in stunning works from these local artists and connect with the creative community.

Meet Izzy Council, The Clayton Center’s summer intern. We welcomed Izzy to the staff in early June after her graduation from Johnston Community College where she earned an Associate’s of Arts degree. She’ll be off to UNC Chapel Hill in August to study drama and history, but in the meantime, she’s working behind the scenes with our tech crew and assisting front of house staff in the box office and during events.

Izzy’s interest and experience in theater at Clayton High School - plus her outgoing personality - made her a perfect candidate for the internship. She said, “I'm thankful for all the chances I get to grow and make connections with others in the theater industry. Working on the technical aspects of theater is something I really enjoy doing and operating the light board is one of my favorite aspects of theater tech.”

She added, “The folks I get to work with in this position are one of my favorite things about this job! I'm very grateful to everyone for being so kind and welcoming here.”

We are grateful to you, Izzy, for jumping right into your new role here. And we look forward to getting to know you this summer!

Buyer beware! Summer is concert season – and whether the event is here at The Clayton Center or elsewhere - we want you to enjoy the show. The Clayton Center and many other primary ticket sellers have safeguards in place to prevent patrons from getting taken in by ticket scammers. There are also things you can do to protect yourself before you make a fraudulent purchase.

• Buy tickets from official sources. The only authorized ticket sales agents for The Clayton Center are The Clayton Center box office at 919-553-1737, The Clayton Center website at theclaytoncenter.com and etix.com. Tickets purchased from outside sources are often inflated in price and are not eligible for assistance if tickets are ever lost or stolen or if the event is canceled or rescheduled.

• Check and recheck the URL. Pay particular attention to typos or strange characters

• Be aware that bogus third-party ticket sites online inflate ticket prices by two or three times the true price. Trust your intuition - if a price seems too high for the event you’d like to attend, do some research before making a purchase.

• Read the fine print. Dummy sales sites often include disclaimers that tell you that prices may be higher than the actual ticket price. Be sure to read any site disclaimers.

• Be aware that scammers may try to take advantage by selling nonexistent tickets through online marketplaces or social media, then disappearing with your money.

Join us as we commemorate Juneteenth at The Clayton Center and the Town of Clayton. This inspiring event was kicked off by Councilmember Gretchen Williams, who introduced a vibrant lineup celebrating African American culture and history.

The celebration featured an uplifting performance by the Johnston Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church choir, filling the venue with soulful and harmonious gospel music. Additionally, we were treated to a dramatic portrayal of the life and works of Langston Hughes in "Soul of Langston." Although the portrayal was not filmed, the spirit and essence of Hughes' legacy were felt throughout the event.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made this Juneteenth celebration a memorable occasion. Let's continue to honor and celebrate freedom and African American heritage.

THANK YOU to all who attended the Town of Clayton's second annual Juneteenth event on Saturday. It was a great success and drew an even larger audience than last year.

The program presented by Daron P. Stewart was both educational and entertaining and the choir from Johnston Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church Clayton, NC lifted the audience in spirit and with joy. Participants enjoyed a reception following the show, which featured sweet treats from Patty Cake’s Littlest Cupcake Shop located on East Second Street and other snacks. Mayor Jody McLeod, Councilmembers Gretchen Williams, Andria Archer and Ruth Anderson, and Town Manager Rich Cappola attended. Councilmember Williams made the opening remarks.

Thank you all for a wonderful afternoon of fellowship at The Clayton Center - the perfect place for the community to come together!

Choirs from Johnston Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church Clayton, NC and Mount Vernon Christian Church will perform and there will be a reception with refreshments following the show.
